Nairnshire / Re: Noted in Passing - Nairnshire Telegraph
« on: Saturday 26 April 14 14:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Some years have passed since you posted the item but if you have not had any further success in tracing Isaac Jamieson, I hope the following helps.
He was born at 4 King Street, Nairn on 16 March 1895 to John Jamieson & Isabella Ralph and had siblings John, Alexander, Isabella & Mary.
In the 1911 Census he is a fisherman and in 1914 was a seaman in the Royal Naval Reserve.
In 1918 he was in the Royal Navy on the S.S. Ravenscraig at Littlehampton and he married Maud Gliddon in that year in that place.
He settled in Liverpool and worked as a seaman, bricklayer and a lay preacher.
Isaac and Maud had three children, John James, Kenneth Gliddon & Fred A.
Isaac died in Liverpool in 1978.
Regards.
Alex

Hi
A lifeboat was first stationed in Nairn in 1878 and was named "Caulfield & Ann". It remained until it was scrapped in 1893 when it was replaced by the "Rev'd Theophilus Sidney Echalez"

In 1911 the lifeboat station at Nairn was closed.

The coxwain of the lifeboats during their placement in Nairn was William Main Cope or Coup.

The above information is taken from my brother's book "The Fishertown of Nairn" which was published in 2009

William Main Cope was born in Nairn c1846 and died in Nairn in 1930.

I cannot trace a direct relationship between him and Isaac Jamieson (1895-1978). However one of William's daughters Elizabeth married a James Main in 1897 and James Main and your great grandfather are 3rd cousins once removed.
There may of course be a closer relationship, but so far I have been unable to trace it.
I hope this helps.
Alexander
P.S. Your great great grandfather Isaac is my 2nd cousin twice removed.

Nairnshire / Re: Anyone recognise these people?

Hi
I am from Nairn and having looked at the photograph, I can confidently say that it was not taken in Nairn.
I do not, at present recognise any of the men but if you are able to give me additional details about the Shaws and any other Nairn people, I may be able to investigate for you.
Regards.

Hi
I have dropped in on your posts about the children of Alexander McIntosh & Isabella Barron.
The IGI shows that there was a second Isabella born on 15 March 1867 but she is not with her parents in the 1871 or 1881 Censuses. The Isabella who was born on 24 September 1859 appears with her parents in the 1871 Census. This is very unusual as although families gave children the same name as a sibling, this was following the death of the earlier sibling.
This line of the McIntosh's had a "tee" name "Courtie" and the 1867 birth shows this.
James Mcintosh married Ann Main Wallace in 1894 and they had a child Anna Bella born in 1899 at 16 Park Street, Nairn.
Ann McIntosh had an illigitimate child Christopher James McRae who was born in 1901.

I am related to Isabella Barron as 2nd cousin, three times removed.
Best wishes.
