Thanks for that  Darcy, they are the family that I was looking for.  ;D

Request a lookup for John and Margaret Jones, with 4/5 children, living at Rhydlas, Nantcwnlle. John aged about 42 and Margaret about 39.

Hoping to confirm that Margaret is alive at that time as she is in the 1881 census but John is listed as a widower in the 1901 census.

Thanks Dave, it was just a long shot. Crofswinter could be written the old english way where the first s of a double s is like a f. I looked up Llan Trefeg on the Old Maps site to see if I could spot the farm, but no dice.

I will have to try and find John Jones's birth certificate. As there are 14 John Jones's list as being born in Cardiganshire in 1846 alone the GRO are not much help as they only check the first 6 when there are multiple entries. I will have to try and arrange a trip to Kew some time soon.

Happy hunting      Dave

Hi Dave, sorry I haven't got back to you sooner but I have been nursing a twisted knee for the last couple of weeks   :'(   and didn't feel like doing much on the family history front.

Yep, I think this is them all right,  ;D  as John was living at Crosswinter fach, in Llan Trefeg when he was married, in 1872. Also one of the witnesses was Evan Jones, his brother. He wouldn't have been listed in 1841 as he was born about 1846. 'though I have yet to find his birth certificate.

In the 1841 census does it say where abouts in Cardiganshire Roderick and Jane where Born ?

I haven't been able to pick them up in either the 1851 or 1861 census as yet but live in hopes.

Regards       Dave

Andy, in desperation before I start banging my head against that brick wall and the men in white coats come to take me away, could you check the 1861 census to see if Roderick and Jane Jones are in the village of Trefilan where they were both born? I know it is a long shot but right now I can't think of anything else.    ???

                        Thanks      Dave

Thanks for that Andy, I am at a loss as to where to go next.     I have tried the IGI but no luck there either.    ???

Looks like the proverbial "brick wall" is on the horizon.   :-\
