Does anyone know if the families are recorded on another document?

No, they were not included in the 1921 census.

Thanks for your confirmation :-)

He was accompanied by his wife and two children.

Are you certain his family were with him in India? One of my great-uncles was serving overseas in 1921, but his wife and children remained in England.

ADDED: There is no 1921 census for Ireland. One of my great-aunts was with her Irish soldier husband in Dublin circa 1921, but I only know this because there is a RC adult baptism record for her at the time.

Yes, we have photos of the family in India.

Possibly SS Manitou ?

Online, search suggests it was sunk in 1915 in the Dardanelles.
Other names of the ship are on the US Great Lakes.
The ship I am looking for sailed to India in 1919 :-)

I have located my grandfather serving with the 5th Royal Irish Lancers in India based in Risalpur.
He was accompanied by his wife and two children.

However, the 1921 Census only records the serving soldiers, the first Census to record military personnel abroad.

Does anyone know if the families are recorded on another document?

All help is appreciated.

This is a record of SSM Percy W Freeman heading off to India in 1919.

Can anyone help to name the ship?

All help is appreciated.

When captured at Gommecourt he was serving with "A" company, 16th Battalion, West Yorks Regiment (32953). He was held at Friedrichsfeld PoW camp.

It appears that he was missing for a long time before being reported as a PoW, so probably presumed killed. There is a Red Cross search request for him dated 20 July 1917.

The pension index card on Fold 3 may tell more of the story, but I don't have a sub. From the blurred image there seems to be a fair amount of writing on it, and "P O War" has been scrawled across it: https://www.fold3.com/image/669279261?xid=1022

Thanks for all the information.
I have managed to download the Pension Index Card but only pensions details and payments on it.
Where  did you locate the information re. being a prisoner of war, as I would like to read more about it?

He was a prisoner of war.
I think you’ll find what you have as his date of death is actually the date on which he was reported missing.
Thanks for your help JenB.
Much appreciated.
My first thought was that something illegal had happened :-)

Hi All,
Thank you for all your help.

I have had a look and found it.
There are still small cottages for sale down the lane in the rear yard area.
