Hi jimmy mac (motown fan by any chance?)
Thanks for the info.Sorry for slow response. Christmas & all that stuff, you know!

The farm could well be the one.......I remember visiting as a small was a typical symmetrical house with a path leading from the front gate, through the centre of the garden, to a door in the middle front of the house, with a small porch over and windows at either side.Seem to recall it was red brick.
When I was little my lasting memory is of a garden full of daffodils ( I think we must have always visited at easter time!)
It's over 40 years since I was last there, but I can still smell those daffs now.....

Guessing you live in the area?
Carol :)

All interesting stuff, this!
Glad I asked the original question.

Now, thinking about the stuff being used as fertilizer made me family were farmers also, so perhaps having a relative who was a 'night soil man' would have been quite beneficial to them! ;)

Thanks, Bob!
I suppose fuller could be considered worse. At least my ancestor didn't have to climb into the stuff! :o

I'm so surprised (NOT) that this topic is still getting read!
Had to be about the worst job available, I would think. Can anyone come up with a worse one?

Now, there's a challenge!!!  ;D

Hi there
No I don't live in Southport but was sufficiently intrigued by my ancestors lives to visit last year, (just after the posting about Little London, actually).
I found a most helpful estate agent (yes, really!) who gave me a map and sent myself and my other half off in the right direction. Apparently. the area around London Street and London Square ( town centre - ish ) was known as Little London years ago.
One of them married a widow from Castle Street, which is very near by, so that convinced me that the info was correct.
Hope this is helpful.
P.S. LOVE Southport! :)

I'm sure you're nowhere near as bad as you make out! ;D but just in case, do let us know when your lessons are.........only kidding!!
Good luck.I'm sure you'll enjoy the freedom. Couldn't manage without my car. The buses are rubbish where I live.It would take me forever to get to work in the mornings.

Hi LIzzy
Yes I did briefly have to give first aid, but the police took over the job when they arrived. Seems such a long time ago now and I'm pleased to say that I did feel better the next day. Thanks for your concern and advice.

Since then I've been involved in an accident myself.Nowhere near as horrific as what I came across, but it took a while to get over, even though it was the other driver at fault, you still lose confidence in your own ability as a driver! The physical stuff heals if you're lucky, but the emotional scars stay with you.....

Hi Sue
Possibly part of the same family because I think I've now got mine back to Wolverhampton on the 1901. Joseph Beddal flour miller age 24 born Wolv. Staffs. Good chance this was my g.grandfather as flour millers named Beddall weren't 10 a penny!
Any link?  Do hope's been a lonely search so far! :'(
