Armed Forces / Re: Albert Frederick Thompson L/10547

Hi Kenjo,

I'm not an expert but I don't think this is the correct person. I checked the Silver Star Badge Roll on Ancestry, and Albert Thompson was in the East Kent Regiment, and discharged in 1917 due to wounds. He did serve overseas.

I think the medal card you are looking for is this one:

http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D5539852

hope that helps,

Gemma

Thank you Gemma,
I have only yesterday seen the L/10547 document. You have found the medal card.
Thank you.
Joanne

Hi all,
I have a medal card for Albert, could an expert tell me if the card is my Albert's card.
The L/10547 is from a family document. So that part is correct.
Thank you for reading.

Aberdeenshire / Re: Birth of John HENDERSON
« on: Wednesday 31 May 17 13:01 BST (UK)  »
Thanks Forfarian and Kenjo

I have the 1851, 1861, 1871, and 1881 Census.

The 1851 census has a child named Jean age 6. Therefore born circa 1845. I am thinking that this child would be Jane Ann.

In 1853 Catharine had a child, Alexander, from John SKINNER and a further child, James, in 1860 from the same person. John and Catharine did not marry.

Both birth certs state John SKINNER as the father.

Margaret

Hi Margaret,
When we help, we like to get to know the family, that gives us a feel for what came before.
Jane Anne (Jean) was probably illegitimate, but may have been John Henderson's child.
I know that this doesn't really help with your original question.
Have you searched newspapers?

Aberdeenshire / Re: Alexander Hay. Cannot find parents
« on: Sunday 21 May 17 08:54 BST (UK)  »
Have had trouble finding parents of my Alex Hay Ch. 23/12/1840, at Aberdeen. He married Marjory Bruce and had Marjory ( re-named Jane) and Alexander.
The most likely parents are listed below:     Alexander Hay was christened at Old Machar Parish on 17.8.1811. Parents were Adam Hay and Jean Milne married 25.4.1809 at New Machar and Peterhead. Known siblings were Charles Stephen (ch. 18.4.1813), Elizabeth (ch. 30.7.1814) and Adam (ch. 7.3.1823). Adam Jnr would have been aged 15 when Marjory was christened and age 18 for the 1841 census. Adam Hay (senior) was possibly ch.5 or 25.4.1786 at Glenbucket, Aberdeen- parents being Adam Hay and Elizabeth Ogg. Adam Snr or Jnr could have been the witness for the christening of Margory (Jane/Jean). On balance, this may be our Family.
Any help?
Gary

Yes, I agree your post has been written confusingly.
Yep, you clearly know who the parents were for your Alexander christened 23/12/1840......it is these parents that you want to know their parents. So what I would do is.....buy the death certificates for Alexander Hay, and Marjorie Bruce. See how long they lived via census and that will give you a window to narrow down your death search.

Europe / Re: Danish translation Please

Thank you Ian for your help. I wondered if it could be in German. Yes, what you have translated is correct.    I was hoping that later it was numbering children.  You have been very kind, and clever, to be able to make anything from that scrawl.

Hi There,
We need to know the mother's name and also  where your father was born, please give every detail you know. It can be quite annoying to spend money when it already is known.
We will try hard.

I have a photo that the owner has thought the subject was born 1820 and died 1903.
He emigrated 1855 from France to Victoria Australia, and was a wine maker.
Can you please say when one would where this attire. As I feel this fellow would be in his 50's and would have been around the early 1900's or very late 1800's
Thanks,
JO
