After speaking with my mum about David last night she has reminded me of some more info that may help tracking him down.

Apparently David always joked with my mum that he has 2 dates of birth. So in addition to his 1901 birth at sea, he had also suggested that he had a date of birth in 1903. My mum also reminded me that he had at one point, a very ornate birth certificate with the name D D D Stubbs from the catholic church (in India?). D D D apparantly was 'David Daniel Divinity'. My mum also said something about being registered with the British Consulate. I'm not sure what that means to be honest. Could the 1903 date be the registration at the British Consulate?

Does this new information provide me with any avenues to track David down?

Oh, one more thing. I don't know if it changes anything but I did notice that on Thomas' Army Book it had Davids middle name first, Daniel David.

What should be my next course of action?

Thanks for the replies so far. I think the tree on Ancestry will be from when my mum was on there, but she no longer has access, but yes, That is the David Daniel Stubbs in question. I know when and where he was married, and where he died, but I'd really love to get hold of his birth details as I don't know who his mother was.

His army number in the 80th Staffordshire regiment was 3705. I read 8th when is actually says Sth for South Staffordshire regiment.

To complicate things... on David Daniel Stubbs marriage certificate it says Thomas was a Private in the 1st Essex Regiment. No army number is given. He is also down as being dead by 1926. I don't know if this is true since it has been suggested that David didn't get on with his dad at all and ran away from home when he was 14. I think that David may have been in the Merchant Navy at some point too.

Sorry for not supplying more dates of events I already knew about, but hopefully the above will shed some more light.

First off, hello everyone. This is my first post here. I hope some of you knowledgable people can point me in the right direction.

I'm trying to find out more information about my Great Grandad David Daniel Stubbs. According to family info passed down to me, he was born at sea in 1901 on the way to India. His father, Thomas, was in the Army in the 8th (or 80th) Staffordshire Regiment. I have some scans of a few pages from an army book belonging to Thomas and within those pages there is confirmation that David was born at sea, the entry is dated 9/5/1901. There is also Thomas's army number if needed.

I don't have access to Ancestry, but have a The Genealogist subscription. Nothing comes up for him in any database on there. Where should I look? What help and advice can you guys and gals give me?

If you need to know any further information let me know.

Cheers everyone

Roy
