Thanks for the replies,

only three years away from the year I was after, I had looked on the old maps and seen he didn't go far from home!

My 3xGreatgrandfather Peter McCann died in 1860, he had been living at Elba Street, Wallacetown. Ayr.

On his death certifacate, it says he was buried at the Catholic Church Yard, would this be St Margarets RC Church?

Also would anyone know if these burial records can be viewed anywhere?

Thank you gaffy,

I do have the newspaper clippings concerning George Stringer being a publican, there are quite a few
newspaper articles.

I just can't find a marriage for them, only the couple in New York with the same names.

Thanks very much for all your replies.

So, they probaly weren't the Lord and Lady of the house (wishful thinking!)

I will have a look at the links, as of yet I haven't found where the Stewerts were from, will keep digging.

Wigtownshire / Penningham House

I have found christening records for the children of my 7xgreatgrandparents James McComb and Marjory Stewart in the early 1700s, taking place at Penningham House.

I have no idea if they lived there and looking up details of the house, it seems it is mostly Victorian built onto an earlier property.

Any help anyone can give me, would be much appreciated.

Maureen.
