Dublin / Irish 1901 census problem(complete ,thanks.)
« on: Saturday 29 January 11 14:02 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,I tried to find a census return on the national archives site today and discovered that the return for 33 New Row south which is Merchants quay D.E.D with my Mooney family seems to have been removed,I can still find them in 1911,There is another New Row but this is a separate place in a different D.E.D,I was about to save the link to the actual household return but now can't find it.I wonder if there is some work going on at the site which is causing some returns to disappear and wonder if anyone else is having this problem? I know it was there before.

Dublin / Registered as "male" is name later added to birth register?
« on: Thursday 04 November 10 14:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,We have received a birth cert' today which has
created more mystery than it solves, not unusual I know.
The person lived his life as John Owens and sometimes with
middle name Joseph, also named his son with these names.
The mystery you ask? well when I checked Irishgenealogy.ie
for his baptism I found a child baptised with the name Stephen!
same address, same parents except his mother sometimes called
Dina or Christina on baptism certs for the family was listed as Dina
on this one although the birth cert shows Bridget Connolly.
I now have the problem of reviewing all of the records
for his entire family because I now suspect I may have 2 family groups with
same parents and childrens name plus their mother has the same maiden name
which is why I'd like to know if the first name for a child would be entered later in
the birth register or somewhere other than on the baptism cert.
                                                                                     very confused Rootschatter.

Dublin / Dublin birth registered 7 years later???complete
« on: Thursday 07 October 10 14:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi,  I've just received a copy of a birth cert'
for a possible half sister of my great grandmother
and was surprised to notice that although the birth
is shown as 1880 the registration date is 1887?
I think the usual time allowed is 3 months and after that
it would incur a fine, but 7 years.Has anyone else had cases
like this one?I'm not sure how to proceed with this as we(Lat 1)
and my sister and I have been trying to narrow down dates for the
second marriage and death of this girls father but this has thrown
a bit of a spanner in the works,I'd appreciate any thoughts on the
subject.

Dublin / Dublin malt houses
« on: Friday 20 August 10 15:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi I'm just wondering if anyone has found a list of
malthouses in Dublin between about 1870 to 1900
and do any of their employee records survive.
Already ruled out the Guinness malt house.
                                                            Thanks, Anne

World War One / Liverpool born mounted soldier.confirm regiment?
« on: Sunday 04 July 10 10:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I have just received this photo of my great grandad John Kavanagh
it has been suggested by family stories that he was a driver in an
artillery regiment maybe R.F.A. John was born in Liverpool in 1870,
fathers name Patrick. We think John May have been away with the
army during the 1901 british census. My newly discovered 2nd cousin
Lat 1(welcome to rootschat) has supplied the photo by email so the resolution
is not great but any help to identify John's regiment would be greatly appreciated.
His Son also said his father served in Rawal Pindi and Salonika,The R.A.museum
I believe said the uniform is definitely from WW.1
We have not as yet managed to identify his medal card or service papers.

Dublin / marriage Dublin 1840s,your thoughts on this please
« on: Monday 28 June 10 12:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi,I found a marriage of a Thomas Owens to a Mary Easons
for 1846 Dublin on the irish genealogy.ie website,a lot of the detail
including the occupation(shoemaker) area listed as address etc etc
makes this couple a candidate for my great grandfather William Owens parents(he was born about 1851) but when I try to find any other mention of them in Irish records there is none on that site or elsewhere.Another complication is that the groom was listed as Owens but signed the register as Owenson.I don't see any way to connect them for definite with William
but I just have a feeling they are the correct parents.Any suggestions?

I wonder if someone would be kind enough to see if they can find
John Kavanagh born liverpool+wife Esther born Dublin(maiden name Smyth) and daughter
Mary or Mary Elizabeth,I have John and Esthers Marriage cert,
they married in St Peters R.C. church in Seel street,Their daughter Mary was baptised in
St Ozbergs? Old Swan, Liverpool, marriage and birth both took place in 1899.They are in
Dublin after 1901 but not on the 1901 census for Dublin so assuming they were
still in Liverpool or in transit to Dublin.
