As a change from the usual and as there still seems to be a shortage of requests.

A cabinet card, rounded corners but no decoration to edges or back. So at a guess anywhere from 1870 to 1910 but I'd guess on the earlier side.

The round thing at the top does appear to be a football-shaped hat crown hence the reference to a football supporter.

The scanner cropped off card on the right-hand side but no part of the image or extra information.

In response to Carol's request for photos to restore and or date here is Margaret Warre. I only know Margaret's name as it was handwritten on the card backing. There is already some very pale colour present and the brooch and ring (near the dark line across her fingers) are coloured in gold.

The photo is on glass and I'm guessing is from the 1860s, maybe earlier. Hopefully there is enough detail present on what Margaret is wearing for someone more knowledgeable to make a more informed guess.

Noticed mention of this project which will use sound recordings made of prisoners of war in Germany. The recordings were made to study dialects. The following link provides access to the recordings and details which soldier was involved. Apologies if this has been posted before.

Canada / Montreal newspapers
« on: Monday 24 June 13 08:32 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm attempting to locate an ancestor whose last known location was Montreal in 1907. I have already searched the 1911 census without any success and given that the lady in question was single I'm going to slog through available online newspapers between 1907 and 1911 for any sign of a marriage or in the worst case, a death.
Which titles are not worth looking at for local news and announcements?
I'm guessing its easier to list those that aren't useful than those which are.

Europe / Prussian directories
« on: Tuesday 05 April 11 13:01 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm in the process of trying to verify some information that has been hand-written on a mounted photograph.

The text goes something like :

Photographischet Atelier von Julius Krüger in Stralsund

The text claims that the photo is from 1864.

This isn't a cdv or portrait so there isn't the usual photographer's details on the back or front of the card.

Does anyone know of a suitable directory or source where I can find out more about this photographer (address etc.?).

Thanks in advance.

Roxburghshire / J.G. Edwards Photographer - Jedburgh
« on: Friday 10 December 10 13:09 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm trying to work out when two photos were taken by J.G. Edwards.

Does anyone know when this photographer operated in Jedburgh?

Unfortunately I don't have the photos to hand so I can't at present provide a specific address but if I recall correctly the card mentioned two other locations along with Jedburgh.

Both photos are group shots of servants at Hunthill.

Regards,

Does anyone out there have access to the transcript of the Pioneer Pergola cemetery in Galt?

I'm interested in the Croziers, I know from the cemetery finding aid that there are four individuals listed. I'd like to know what other information is available from the gravestones (if any).

Thanks in advance.
