James & Ellen reappear in 1901 Census but no sign off Sarah Ellen.
The wife and mother.
Don't want to waste people's time. Check previous inputs, but where is she ?
Not wanting to discourage you, but had an investigator employed who gave good return but no Whereabouts o Sarah Ellen Cahill b. 1870.

I live in hope but please check previous posts so noone wastes time.

Armed Forces / Boer War Records Location
« on: Wednesday 16 August 23 05:36 BST (UK)  »
A gentleman came to our Family History Group this morning seeking information about his grandfather, Mathew Leigh who was a Lancer in a Boer War. All I could help him with is the following:

Mathew Leigh born 1879 in Northwich, Cheshire.
Enlisted 1897 in the South Lancashire Regiment. Enlisted Number 6786.

He has researched Mathew's BMD information but would like to find out more of his War Record.
Mathew finished his career as a senior policeman in the Wallasey area.

Could someone please direct me a site where I might find relevant records in addition to the South Lancs  website?

Thanks

Alan

Australia / Burgess Newtown Foundry
« on: Wednesday 19 July 23 04:33 BST (UK)  »
A friend is attempting to restore a winch which he believes was used on an oyster lease. The winch is labelled, Burgess Newtown Foundry. My friend's curiosity has been awakened and he would like to find out any historical facts about the Foundry.

So far we think we have established the following:
* The Newtown is a Sydney suburb
* A John Burgess died after being thrown from his horse in 1855 when it as spooked by a dog
* A John Burgess funeral occurred in 1855 in the Church of England, Camperdown, Newtown.

What was the Company's history? Where was it located? How long did it survive? Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Australia / Mrs Kate Angela Bligh of Dalby
« on: Wednesday 16 November 22 23:01 GMT (UK)  »
I am assisting a friend who is a female relative of Kate Angela Bligh who died in Queensland in March 1945. While she has a substantial written record of Kate's life, she wishes to find a photo of her, if possible.

Kate Bligh was " a splendid organiser and keen worker for movements in which she held an interest."

I was wondering if there is anyone currently connected the local Ambulance, local Girl Guides, local Red Cross or the local Catholic Church who could either provide a photo or information as to where one could be obtained.

Kate was also the recipient of the Kings Medal for philanthropic work. Perhaps there is a photo relating to that event ?

Thanks !

Cheshire / Palliative Care person
« on: Saturday 10 August 19 10:25 BST (UK)  »
I posted this originally in Lancashire because the lady was born in Kirkdale area. But she was sent to the Frankby Home c. 1939. Both people are currently still alive so I am reluctant to publish full names.

Knowledge of Franky about 1939 + as a home forchildfen.

But her last name was Simeon.

I volunteer inn the Palliative Care Area so everything can move swiftly.

The wife, the lady is not the patient, but it would help her immensely.

Thanks to the person who suggested I widened my horizons !! I live in hope !

Cheshire / Frankby Childrens' Home
« on: Saturday 10 August 19 09:40 BST (UK)  »
I help with a Palliative Service. My client and his wife  are still alive. So no names.

But the wife was sent to Frankby in 1939. To a Children's  Home.

Except for the obvious Google, can anyone help us with historical facts ?

If I post the surname Simeon,  I hope this doesn't identify anyone.

She would like some information re her past.

Hopefully.

Australia / Thomas Simister. InternationalTraveller.
« on: Friday 15 March 19 08:46 GMT (UK)  »
This started off with an assumption that Thomas was born in England. Because we have a marriage:
Thomas Simister to Ellen Carter 9c 4th qtr 1324A in 1908.

Then we have a migration document:
Thomas & Ellen on board Orsova leaving London for Australia on 25.09.1914.

However a birth for Thomas could not be found in England. ( I hope I am right !!!!)

English Census for 1901 says:
RG 13. Piece 4321. Folio 99 Page 27
A Thomas Simister was living with his parents, but born in Australia.

Checking NSW BDM, I found, a birth.
Thomas Simister 4705/1883 son of Robert & Eliza. Registered in Leichhardt, a Sydney area.
Other children were born in Victoria.

I would like to find out how and why the parents came to Australia and why and when they returned to England.

Tough call but I have faith in the enquiry.

Thomas eventually dies in an accident on Sept 6th 1932 while living in Sydney.

I hope these facts relate to the same person.

Thanks
