I am asking assistance please to find out more about Mrs STEWARD, mantua maker, of Ten Foot Way, Wapping. She had an apprentice, Jane Ralph who had served two years of her apprenticeship.  Jane shows up in the London Poor Law Records in May, 1797.  Thank you, Jennifer

I would appreciate some advice about where to locate paylists and musters for the KOSB between 1831 and 1838 please.  I did add to an old thread related to the 25th but nobody has jumped onto it.
Thank you, Jennifer

Yorkshire (North Riding) / STEWARD bdm in Whitby
« on: Sunday 25 April 21 01:33 BST (UK)  »
I am asking whether there is a way to locate parish registers for Whitby in the early 1800s.  I am looking for a marriage of William STEWARD to a SARAH and baptisms for daughters JANE and MARY though these events may have taken place in London.  William's place of birth is shown as Yorkshire in about 1870.  A number of online trees are pointing to the marriage and baptisms happening in Whitby but as far as I can see they have no sources.  It would be good to see what the registers have to say which will either confirm or otherwise the Whitby connection.  The names YENCH and WILLBYRNE pop up as second names for the two girls in just one record so I am supposing they could be family names. I am quite happy to trawl through registers if images are available.  Regards, Jennifer (many times great granddaughter of William Steward).

Suffolk / GARNHAM in Ipswich
« on: Tuesday 20 April 21 03:40 BST (UK)  »
I searched unsuccessfully many years ago for James GARNHAM born Ipswich in about 1812.  I am hopeful that perhaps more resources have come to light, other researchers might be on the track or that DNA research in Suffolk might help.  Very little is known about his life.  He arrived in Australia 1838/1839 possibly on a ship called the United Kingdom, though he does not show up on the passenger list.  He married an Irish girl by the name of Margaret Smith and they had a large family.  Unfortunately, he then suffered delusions and ended up in an insane asylum.  His trade had been that of a tailor according to the asylum records.  The ship's name comes from the entry notes from the gaol where he landed prior to being sent to the asylum so its accuracy is problematic.  I would appreciate any nudges in the right direction please.  J

The Common Room / Lease and Release

I am seeking some clarification of this legal term please.  I believe it means that a conveyance of property actually takes place.  It comes up in a document from 1833 in Sydney, New South Wales. Regards, J.

Australia / St. George's Anglican Church cemetery, Hurstville
« on: Sunday 21 April 19 02:01 BST (UK)  »
The headstones for this churchyard were apparently removed in the 1960s.  I'm wondering if anyone is aware of any transcription or photographs of the headstones which may have been made?  Thanks, J.

Antrim Completed Look up Requests / Minnowtown
« on: Saturday 23 March 19 08:27 GMT (UK)  »
In 1923 an ancestor (Margaret CROWE) died at 5 Minnowtown Terrace, Purdysburn - supposedly at the home of one of her daughters.   I could not locate any Minnowtown Terrace address in the 1911 census and could not find Minnowtown Terrace on a current map (though I did find Minnowtown Mews).  I am doing some follow up and wondering how likely it would be for the address to not exist in 1911, but show up in 1923.  The address is specific.  It has occurred to me that Margaret may have died in one of the two hospitals there and the address is actually that of one of the hospitals.  Thanks, J.
