Clare / William John Ryan Scarriff
« on: Sunday 31 July 16 16:45 BST (UK)  »
Dear All
I have posted on here before, (although a few years back) and the help I was given was brilliant  :)
I am hoping that someone may be able to help me again please.
In October I am planning to visit Scarriff and if I am really lucky find more information on my Great Grandfather William John Ryan.
All I know is his name and that he was born C1867 in Scarriff. His fathers name was John (who was a laborer)
That information came from Williams marriage record - He married in 1890 on Jersey. His year and place of birth came from his army records and the 1911 census when he was living in Southampton.

I have no idea what his mothers name / maiden name was or if he had any brothers and sisters.

Are there any places that anyone can recommend to visit to find out more?

Thank you in advance for your help  :)

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Look up request please, Bristol
« on: Tuesday 08 April 14 17:45 BST (UK)  »
If anyone is going to the Bristol Records office please would you be kind enough to look up the following for me?

Marriage of James Burrows to Charlotte Conway (both from Bristol)- This marriage has eluded me for over 7 years! their first born William James was baptized in 1839 I can only assume that they married just before the date that the 1837 registrations came into force. If there is any information as to the date or who the witnesses were, I would be very grateful.

Also -
John Burrows died 1st September 1826 aged 15 (Bristol) - again any extra info on this would be very much appreciated.

If I could be really cheeky -

Death of Joseph Burrows 15th June 1828 (Bristol) any extra info please - informants, occupation etc, (if they have them documented)

thank you very much in advance.

Clare / William John Ryan
« on: Tuesday 23 March 10 22:51 GMT (UK)  »
Please can anyone help??

I have been trying to find my Irish ancestors for 6 years and I know its like looking for a needle in a haystack, but Im hoping someone somewhere may also have a William John Ryan in their tree.

I dont have alot of info to go on, but Im not going to give up just yet!

My great grandfather was William John Ryan born in Clare c1867 ( but I dont know which part of Clare)
The first record I found for him was on the 1891 census, he was married and living on St Hellier, Jersey. He was a gunner in the Royal Artillery.
I dont know if he enlisted whilst still living in Clare, or where to go to apply for his army records?

I have found a marriage, and that took place on Jersey in 1890 it states that his father was called John and he was a labourer.

They had 2 children whilst living in Jersey. John Henry born 1891 and Amelia Norah born 1892.( i have been told that in some families it was tradition to name the eldest son and daughter after the husbands parents?)

My grandmother was born in Sunderland in 1894 so I know they had left Jersey by then. But he is shown as a Gunner in Royal Artillery on her birth certificate

I cannot find them at all on any census return for 1901

By the 1911 census they were living in Southampton and William was no longer in the army. He died in 1914 before the war started.

If anyone is able to give me advice on where to start searching for my Irish ancestors or where to apply for his army records, it would be very much appreciated.

Thank you

Sarah

Gloucestershire / trying to find marriage
« on: Wednesday 17 February 10 22:09 GMT (UK)  »
Please can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I might find the marriage record of James Burrows (born 1816 St Michaels Bristol) to Charlotte Conway (born 1821 Clifton Bristol)
On the 1841 census they are already married and have an 11 month old child, living in St Michaels Hill, Bristol I thought that this may possibly mean that they married around 1839, but I cannot find any trace of their marriage either in Bristol or outside the area. I have been searching for this for over 5 years now and Ive searched everywhere I can think of.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you
