United States of America / BAIKIE near chicago
« on: Saturday 05 March 22 13:33 GMT (UK)  »
William Ibister Baikie born 1867 in Orkney, immigrated to Cook County, Chicago about 1890 with his family, and I can trace him in the census 1900 to 1940, when he was living with his daughter Margaret and her family. He would be about 76 by then, but on FindMyPast there is no details when he died.
His wife Margaret Foubister, also came from Orkney but died before the 1930 census.
Any help in pointing where I can find both their deaths would be appreciated

Lanarkshire / BLACK JAMES 1775 Lanarkshire
« on: Wednesday 29 December 21 15:09 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to trace descendants of my 3x Great Grandfather, JAMES BLACK,  who was born in about 1775 in Carnwath in Lanarkshire. He married ANN BROWN, who was born 19 May 1772 in Carnwath.  I think they married around 1793/4 and had at least 8 children.
Jean in 1795, James 17 Dec 1796, Andrew 17 Oct 1798, Robert 16 Sep 1800, John 20 Mar 1803 (my 2 x Gt Grandfather) William 5 Aug 1805 George 15 June 1809 and Hugh 16 Sep 1811.

Andrew 1798, married a Jean or Jane Hogg, b 1811 at Kirkurd in Peeblesshire and went on to have at least 9 children :-  Anne/a 11 Oct 1835, Jane/Jean 5 Sep 1837, James 10 Sep 1839, Alexander 25 Sep 1841, Margaret 26 Aug 1843, Mary 16 July 1845, Andrew 17 July 1847, John 8 July 1849 and Robert 1853

James 10 Sep 1839, married Catherine Jamieson Inch b 11 Dec 1845 on 7 Aug 1874 in Carnwath, and they went to have 4 Children, Grace Jamieson b 31 May 1876, Andrew 16 July 1878, Alexander inch b 24 Nov 1882, plus another according to the 1911 Census.

James died 31 Dec 1926 and Catherine in 1913, and I have found a death  of Grace Jamieson on 13 Jan 1958, she had married a John Aitchison on 23 Sep 1913, after her mother’s death.
Alexander Inch appears to have died on 4 Feb 1919 in Glasgow, although I am unable to find a death certificate on Scotland’s People for the death !
Also cannot trace a death for Andrew b 16 Aug 1878 in Biggar.
Are there any descendants from these three children, they would be my of my father’s generation.

Northumberland / Poppelwell
« on: Thursday 28 October 21 17:08 BST (UK)  »
In trying to expand my late wife's birth family tree, I have found a Margaret Jane Ochiltree Sharp who married a Leonard Poppelwell in about the early 1890's.
I am not sure about the spellings of either OCHILTREE or POPPELWELL ,and Sharp may have an "E" in the end.  I think births were registered in Tynemouth
Her mother was also baptised Margaret Jane Ochiltree, but cannot find trace of parents and she is in the 1871 census with Ochiltre family as a niece.
Any hints or pointers to where to look would be appreciated

Renfrewshire / BLACK born Greenock
« on: Thursday 01 July 21 18:05 BST (UK)  »
One of my ancestors, I believe was born in Greenock, in what then was Renfrewshire on 15 September 1842 , the son of John Black and Elizabeth Thompson.
I think I have hime emigrating to America in early 1890's as he appears to get married to ANN P GOODACRE in Sep 1892 in Washington DC.
I have them on the 1900 and 1910 US Census with one son born in Scotland to a first wife and five children to Annie.
Can anyone point me in the direction of any of these children after 1918, when John dies again in Washington DC?  I have looked on FindMyPast only, as I have the subscription.
There may be a number of chidlren of at least one of his sons, a George W Black born about 1903, who married, I think, Agnes Hopkins, born in North Carolina about 1900/1901
Any assistance would be gratefully received

Warwickshire / BLACKs in Stratford on Avon
« on: Thursday 06 May 21 17:44 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for descendants of Arthur James BLACK 1925 to 2003 and his wife Josephine E Ward 1928 to 2017, in the Stratford upon Avon Area, and Warwickshire.
He, I think is the son of Adam Sanderson Black 1891 to 1956  and Beatrice Moreton 1892 to ?
and he in turn is the son of James Black born in Dolphinton in Scotland in 1865 and married to Grace Somerville Sanderson, 1863 to 1957, who they were married at Kirkurd, in Peeblesshire on 20 July 1888.
The link on my tree appears to be through Grace Somerville Sanderson, whose father was Adam Sanderson, the son of David Sanderson (1795 to 1866) and Jean or Jane Black (1795 to 1876)
Jean / Jane being the sister of my 2x great grandfather, John Black 1803 to 1887 and his wife Elizabeth Thomson (1817 to 1879)
