Lancashire Lookup Requests / Coleman/Barrett/Chadwick – Oldham/Manchester area
« on: Monday 05 December 11 06:51 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I am looking for any descendants of Eliza Coleman b:c1891 in Oldham to Patrick Coleman and Mary(nee Joyce); her siblings were James, John, Annie and Thomas.  Eliza had a maternal aunt called Annie who brought her up after her parents died, Annie’s maiden name was Joyce but her married names were Barrett and Chadwick; it seems the family called her Auntie Barrett. Annie lived in Harding St in Oldham. Eliza’s paternal grandmother was Eliza Mellet/Mallet.
I would love to know more about Eliza, who she married and if she had children and grandchildren. Any information appreciated.

Lancashire / Oldham - missing districts 1891?
« on: Monday 25 August 08 03:57 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I wonder if any one knows anything about the 1891 census of Oldham? I have a subscription to Ancestry and I can't find some of my family. In the list of enumeraiton districts for oldham below town numbers 28 to 39 are missing. I suspect it is in these areas where my family was living. Does this mean that only Ancestry hasn't got them and that they could be available somewhere else or does it mean the records are missing all together? Why do they list a census as being complete if some is missing? I'd appreciate any info :)

Cheers

« on: Monday 14 July 08 05:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I wonder if anyone could look up the birth of Rebecca Jones b:1822 in Hawarden.  She moved to Cheshire which is were she married and Harwarden is always listed as birthplace on census. On her marriage cert. she was 20rys old on 12th Dec. 1842. Her father's name is John Jones, a shoemaker. I'd love to know her mother's name and possibly get information on the parent's marriage. Any help much appreciated.

Shropshire Lookup Requests / 1851 - Desperate for help!
« on: Friday 23 September 05 06:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I put in this request a couple of weeks ago, but I thought it might help to make it a bit clearer ::)

I don't have an address but it is a very small village called Meadowtown, civil parish: Worthen in the Forden/montgomery area of Shropshire. The village only takes up about five pages of the census so it is not too much of a search and I have all the reference numbers.

I am looking for Richard Williams b: 1813 and his wife Elizabeth b: 1811 in 1851:
Piece No: 2498
Folio: 353
Page: 7

I think  Elizabeth is my 4x great-grandmother and believe that Richard could be her second husband, they also have at least one child with them Martha b:1847. I managed to get these reference numbers but have not had access to the page, so if I can find out who else was in the house at that time it might provide the vital clue to confirming the family connection, its too invlved to go into now but it is quite a mystery.

I'd really appreciate help!

 ;D ;D ;D

Cheshire Completed Lookup Requests / 1841 lookup for Chester
« on: Sunday 31 July 05 04:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am looking for my 3 x greatgrandparents in 1841.

Charles Price b:1823  in Hawarden, Flint - Journeyman &
   bricklayer

Rebecca jones B: 1824 in Chester, Cheshire

In 1851 they lived in Bridge St, St Mary, Chester

They were married in Chester, St Oswald in the December quarter of 1842.

Their eldest child was christened in Chester, St Mary in  1844.

They continued to live in the area for the rest of their lives.
I was hoping that if I could find one or both of them in 1841 they might be living with family and I would get a start on the next generation.

Any help greatly appreciated :) :) :)

World War One / Mystery Great Grandad and Army Records?
« on: Tuesday 26 July 05 07:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I have a great grandfather, Charles James Wood, who is a bit allusive. He married my greatgrandmother, Susannah Gardner in 1906(I know a lot about her, my dad knew her well) they had a child (1906), he went to WWI, came back and left his family to become an itinerant or hobo.

I don't know when he was born, but they were married in Wigan, Lancs and my grandmother was born in Hindley were her mother's family lived. I am told he came from the area. I am about to send away for the marriage certificate, but what I do know about him is that he was in the army during the Boar War and WWI. It seems the family called him 'The old general', although I am sure they were referring to his attitude and/or age, as I am sure he wasn't highly ranked (they were working class). There is also uncomfirmed info. that he died in Bury, Lancs, possibly in the late thirties or forties, though we don't have a date.

So, with that background I was wondering how do you find out about people who were in the army, particuarly Lancashire Regiments? I know how to get records of people who died in action, but what about those who returned?

Any suggestions most appreciated :)

Shropshire Lookup Requests / 1841/1851 request updated
« on: Monday 11 July 05 01:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I posted this request a couple of days ago, but thought I would up date it

It would be great if someone could look up the following for me in 1851 and/or 1841:

Eliza Davies b: 1838, Worthen, Shropshire.

Eliza was my ggg grandmother. In all the census '61' to 91 she gives Worthen as her birth place. In 61 she is living in Wentnor and in all the others she is in Worthen.

I have a  record (IGI) of her marriage to  Samuel Gardner
(3xgreatgrandfather) in Trelystan, Montgomery, Wales in 1856, her father was named as William Davies, I think she may have married there because that is where her parents married. Her mothers name might be Elizabeth. I know Worthen and Trelystan are close on the border.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers
