Limerick / O'Connor
« on: Sunday 14 February 16 21:34 GMT (UK)  »
My gt grandmother was Anne O'Connor, she married Patrick Hogan at St Patricks Athlone on 29th Jan 1897.
According to census information and her age at death she should have been born 12th June 1876 in Limerick to a father called Robert Connor.
The tricky part is that my mother tells me that Anne's mother died in childbirth ( not sure if that was her birth or not) and her father was a soldier who couldn't look after the children so put them into a convent to care for them.
My mum thinks that there were 5? children, a brother called Roddy (Roderick?) and sisters Maggie and Bridget and another unknown sister. They may all have come to England as Anne did.

More confusion as Anne was also known as Annie and could have actually been Joanne.

I can't seem to find any information on any of this family, does anybody know anything about them?.

I keep attempting to add sources to FTM but I find the whole process so difficult that I usually get fed up quite quickly and give up.
Firstly when typing in long titles I have to keep leaving the program to look at the title again to remind myself what the next line is, then when I get back to start typing again I get the annoying "are these two sources the same or are you changing the spelling" Grrr.

Secondly I don't see any means of entering a title which is longer than the length of the window. If I shorten the title of the book then it won't make sense to me or anybody else so what good will it be to try?

Has anybody got any solutions to these problems?

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Street Farm, Wentworth
« on: Tuesday 03 December 13 17:23 GMT (UK)  »
For an 1826 burial at Wentworth the abode is given as Street but I can't find it on either modern or old maps.
According to Genuki, Street Farm or Lodge was a farm house in the parish of Wath upon Dearne, 6 miles from Rotherham & Barnsley which sounds as if it would be around Hoyland.

Does anybody know where Street Farm was or is?

I have a couple from Ecclesfield who married at Sheffield Cathedral in 1854 where for both of them the residence at the time of marriage is given as division l, or so it appears to me. I've not seen this before, does anybody have any ideas what it means?

Limerick / Annie O'Connor
« on: Monday 01 July 13 17:34 BST (UK)  »

My gt grandmother was called Annie O'Connor and she was born 12th June 1875 ish in Limerick. I am unsure of the year because although my mother told me Annies birthday, the year of birth is from the 1901 and 1911 census, in 1901 she was 25 and in 1911 she was 33.
The only other information I have is that she had a brother called Roddy (Roderick?) and sisters called Maggie and Bridget.

I am drawing a blank on any of this family, does anybody have any ideas as to how I could get any further with them please.

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Name
« on: Sunday 02 June 13 17:43 BST (UK)  »

Another one from the previous will, this time it's a name though. It looks like Thomas Radar but surely it can't be? It isn't helped one bit by the letters above having long tails. Can anybody suggest any names which might fit?

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / A Will
« on: Saturday 01 June 13 12:33 BST (UK)  »

I have been asked for my opinion on the wording of a 16th century will. It says "I bequest the lease and ..........    of my farmhold with Income of my lands" with a word which I think could possibly be "socage" but I was wondering if anybody agreed or had alternatives?

Has anybody tried the family tree section of Familysearch yet? Is it new or have I only just noticed it?

I am trying to locate a place which is named as either Ferber in the Forest of Pendle or Forber within Whitley Booth. Does anybody know where this could have been?
