The Common Room / Relationship
« on: Thursday 17 February 22 15:01 GMT (UK)  »
Anyone out there who is good at working out relationships?

The grandfather of Child A and the Great Grandmother of Child B were brother and sister.

What relation is Child A to Child B please.

I have tried working it out but am not sure I have done it correctly.

Many thanks.

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Sally Gardner
« on: Thursday 09 December 21 14:01 GMT (UK)  »
Sally Gardner was baptised 29 March 1801 in Stow on the Wold to Richard and Hannah Gardner. Apart from this baptism I can find nothing else for her - no marriage or death nor does she appear on any Census. She is not mentioned in Richard's Will of 1853 either but he does mention a daughter Mary Wills. I haven't been able to find a baptism for a Mary Gardner although I have her marriage to Edward Boulton in Gloucester in 1822. Edward died 1834 in Stow and Mary obviuosly remarried to John Wills. I can't find the marriage nor can I find her in the Censuses but there is a death for a Mary Wills Cheltenham 1869 aged 70 which could be her.

Can anyone see anything for either Sally or Mary and could they possibly be one and the same person?

Thanks

Gloucestershire / William Freeke
« on: Tuesday 31 March 20 10:47 BST (UK)  »
William Freeke/Freek/Feake etc married Hester Stone in Bitton 1745.

I am looking for his birth/baptism. From info I have found on line he was born c1724 in Gloucestershire, possibly Westbury on Trym. His father may, or may not have been called Philip. Sorry to be a bit vague, I'm just trying to confirm what I have found on line.

Also a birth/baptism for Heatsre Stone c 1725 possibly Bristol.

Many thanks,

Emeltom

Durham / Jane Bunton burial Witton Gilbert 1737
« on: Wednesday 22 January 20 19:50 GMT (UK)  »
The National Burial Index has a burial in Witton Gilbert for a Jane Bunton 29 January 1737.

Does anyone have access to the Parish Registers for that date. I would like to know if any age is given. If I have the right person she was born Jane Rippon c 1660-1670(she married Anthony Bunton/Bunting in 1687) but I cannot find a birth for her anywhere. An age at death might just give me a bit of a clue.

Thanks,

Emeltom

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Where is Chriustall?
« on: Saturday 26 October 19 11:56 BST (UK)  »
I have a marriage which took place at St Peters, Leeds in 1627. The groom is from Headingley and the bride is from Chriustall. I am having the greatest difficulty finding anywhere that remotely resembles Chriustall - anyone got any ideas?

Thanks,

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Fleet Clandestine Marriages.
« on: Friday 13 September 19 14:58 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know why these marriages took place? I have two ancestors, a father and son, both from Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire, who are on the Fleet Marriage Registers. As far as I know neither were actually prisoners in the Fleet. The son married a girl who was under 21 so possibly it was because her parents didn't consent - a bit like eloping to Gretna Green I suppose. The father married a widow according to his marriage entry so both would have been 'of full age'. I'm just curious as to why they didn't have a normal church marriage as they both baptised their children in church in Hemel Hempstead.

Gloucestershire Lookup Requests / Longdon St Mary Parish Registers
« on: Tuesday 20 August 19 20:40 BST (UK)  »
Apart from the Forest of Dean site, does anyone know if there are any on line sites which cover Longdon St Mary for the latter part of the 1600s and early 1700s

I'm after a baptism of a Catherine Nash and her burial as Catherine Toms/Thoms, wife of Thomas

Thanks,

Durham Lookup Requests / George Rennison buried Durham 1822
« on: Tuesday 13 August 19 19:32 BST (UK)  »
I am in a bit of a quandary with George Rennison. He married Mary Best in Dalton le Dale 16 November 1761. Between 1762 and 1777 they produced and baptised their children in Esh. Wife Mary died in Witton Gilbert in August 1803 aged 65. I know this is the correct Mary because  I had found her birth to parents Robert Best and Mary quite some time before I found her burial an on the burial entry it reads

Mary, wife of George Rennison and daughter of Robert Best and Mary, his wife. So I know I have the correct Mary Rennison, even if age at death doesn't quite match up with the date of her baptism , which was 1742.

My problem lies with George. I cannot find a burial for George Rennison in Witton Gilbert but there is one in Durham, just a few miles away. George Rennison was buried 1822 aged 93 which gives him a year of birth of 1729.

My problem is finding his birth. I can find a George Rennison baptised 1729, father Robert, but it is miles away from Durham in Warkworth in Northumberland.

What do you think? Is this likely to be my George Rennison?

Not sure if it helps but Mary Best's parents were Robert and Mary and, if this George is correct, his parents were Robert and Ann. George and Mary Rennison named three of their children Mary, Ann and Robert
