World War One / Photo ID please
« on: Friday 01 August 08 08:25 BST (UK)  »
I am hoping someone can help me ID the uniform of the gentlemen in these photos. The one in the middle is a great uncle. George Henry Hind,  who lived in Sheffield, Yorkshire. He is also featured in the second photo. Unfortunately these are the only versions of the photos I have so I cannot do a close up version of them.

I have searched through the ancestry.com data bases with no luck at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Somerset Completed Lookup Requests / 1841 Census Lookup: Shepton Mallet
« on: Monday 26 December 05 05:45 GMT (UK)  »
Would sks please look for Joseph CLIFFORD in the 1881 Census. I have been told he was there with his grandmother in 1841. Would also love to know the other CLIFFORDs in Shepton Mallet at this time but realize that that is probably just being greedy.

Thanks,

Completed Leicestershire Lookup Requests / Shepshed 1851 Census lookup
« on: Tuesday 27 September 05 14:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi could someone please see if they can find the following family in Shepshed in the 1851 Census:

At census time in 1841 the family were living at Ring Fence, Sheepshed listed as:

William HALL 40,  Framework Knitter
Wife Mary aged 40
Thomas aged 20,
Delilah aged 20,
Sarah aged 15 and
Martha aged 10 months.
All born in the County.

There was a second family living in Brook Street, Shepshed  with a William and Mary at the helm as well. They are not the family I am after.

Also if you could locate the son Thomas referred to above and his wife Elizabeth and sons John, William and possibly Samuel in 1851 I would be so grateful. In 1861 Thomas and his new wife were living at Ring Fence so I am hoping this will prove to be the case in 1851 as well. I could be so lucky!

There is a second Thomas Hall, born in 1818 as was the one above with wife Ann and a number of children. If it is not too much to ask I would dearly love their details as well as I am still not 100% sure which Thomas is mine.

Thank you,

:) Lyn

1841 in either Sunderland or Bishop Wearmouth

Trying to find  Joseph CLIFFORD b. 1821 Shepton Mallet, Somerset, wife Mary (ROUNTREE) b. 1822 in Sunderland. They married in Sunderland 1840 and infant son Robert Rountree CLIFFORD born in March 1841 in Bishop Wearmouth.

would also like to find them in 1851

Mary Clifford "may" be *widowed* at this time...

The IGI has  Joseph with this family when I have the same gentleman (or rogue, as the case may be) marrying Sarah SEAGER in Frome, Somerset in 1844.  The IGI entry has his time and place of death as "Bef 1848  Place:  India" which sounds suitably vague enough to be a cover story for a deserting husband.. and funilly enough, he seems to have done the same thing 30 years later when he just disappeared from the face of the earth sometime between the 1871 and 1881 censuses... but wife Sarah doesn't call herself a widow until the 1891 census.

Thanks,

Cornwall / Uren family: Cornwall to Australia
« on: Tuesday 07 June 05 03:19 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am desperately trying to find any trace of the following family shown in the 1841 census:

HO107/142 Folio 38 Page 20
Long Rock
Penwith Cornwall

UREN John 45 Yes Farmer
UREN Alice 35  Y
UREN Elizabeth 15 Y
UREN Mary 10 Y
UREN Ann 7  Y
UREN Grace 4 Y
UREN James 2 Y

Daughter Mary (Jane) married John JENKIN in Madron 07.05.1855 and they arrived in Sydney,  Australia as assisted immigrants aboard the "Cressy" on 12 January 1856. On the shipping records they indicate that Mary Jane already had 2 sisters living in Melbourne at this time. No amount of imaginative manipulation of the Victorian Pioneer Index has revealed these ladies to date:(

Mary Jane and John JENKIN had 2 children, Rebecca Ann and Alice in Sydney NSW in 1856 and 1857 respectively and then twin girls down in Ballarat, Victoria (sadly, both of whom died shortly after birth) in 1859 and then they promptly disappeared.. or at least they have for me.

Alice, the only child to survive to adulthood was found residing in Darlinghurst, NSW in 1895 when she finally married.  Her mother's name was recorded as "Wren" on the certificate.

I would dearly love to find more on Mary Jane and her sisters, so can anyone place my Uren family?

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / 1841 Census: Broomhall, Sheffield area
« on: Sunday 20 March 05 06:13 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

If it is at all possible could someone check to see if any of the following are listed:

John Cartledge
William Charlesworth
Luke Charlesworth
Ellen and William Beck (Ellen was a servant at Broomhall lodge)
Frederick Holden aged about 12, scholar
Joseph Hudson... land owner, possibly builder
John Snayd,  labourer
Benjamin Seale, plumber

I am trying to pinpoint all the players in my G G Grandfather, John Cartledge's trial in July 1841

Places mentioned are a "new" housing development called Sandon Place in Glossop Rd, Mr. Brookfield's plantation and Broomhall lodge.

John was not in the Nottingham district on Census night so I am hoping that he may have been here... or at least some of the players in his trial were.

Thank you,
Lyn in Australia

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Look Up 1881 Scotland Census
« on: Friday 18 February 05 00:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

Would someone please see if they can find John HISLOP, born Paisley Abbey about 1856? There is a John HISLOP aged 29 living in Old Monkland, Lanark listed on Scotlandpeople site that might be my John (even with the age discrepancy) but I have run out of credits and am reluctant to spend more.

If it not too much trouble I would also love to see the other HISLOP household in Old Monkland that has another John HISLOP aged 19 living there.

Thanking you,
:) Lyn in Australia
