Herts Completed Lookup Requests / John Robinson
« on: Saturday 15 March 14 03:06 GMT (UK)  »
My ggg grandfather was John Robinson born in 1789 and died in 1831 in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire.  He married Sarah in Islington, London in 1811.  I am trying to find parents of both.  Does anyone know how I can do this despite trying just about everything possible.  Because I don't know where either were born I can't get a birth certificate.  Any ideas please?

London and Middlesex / Telegraph Club
« on: Wednesday 03 August 11 10:36 BST (UK)  »
On a Church baptism certificate in 1874 for Thomas Warner.  It is noted that my great grandparents James Warner(born 1844) and Eliza Hill Warner (born 1847) were living at 34, Essex Street, Haggerston, London.  However under the column Quality, Trade or Profession it says Telegraph and I think the next word is Club.    On another Birth Baptism for their first child, 1869, the occupation for James Warner (1844) is a Printer.  On the census for 1871 he is a Newsagent. Census 1881 a General Dealer and after that he doesn't appear on any further census with his family nor can I find him.  His name appears on marriage certificates for three children 1897, 1905 and 1907 but I doubt whether he attended  He was a commercial traveller on the first, commission agent on the second and a traveller on the third.   Does Telegraph Club have any bearing on the above.
Thank you for reading and any thoughts will be gratefully received.

Australia / Alexander TAYLOR
« on: Saturday 04 June 11 05:32 BST (UK)  »
Apologies for my vagueness.
This is all I know.
Name:Alexander Taylor.  He left England bound for Australia between the years 1900-1920.  He was to be employed as an Agent for Lord???.  He settled in Fig Street, Yeppoon, Queensland.  His children were being educated by the School of the Air in Queensland.  Communication with Alex Taylor and the relations he left behind in England ceased at this point.  If anyone knows of an Alex Taylor who was living in this region of Australia with a wife and children, I should love to hear from you.
Thank you for any help possible.

Cornwall Lookup Requests / Gwennap, Cornwall.
« on: Friday 10 December 10 09:19 GMT (UK)  »
:)    I am searching for the parents of Harriett Helen Pryor who was born in Gwennap, Cornwall in 1868.  She married Albert Thomas Green born in 1868 in Croydon, Surrey.  They married at St. Olaves, Southwark, London.
I cannot find her on any census for the area of Gwennap, Cornwall for 1871, 1881 nor 1891 but have found her, married to Albert T Green on the census for 1901 and 1911 on both census living in Croydon Surrey.  I have searched just about everywhere for her and am puzzled why she seems to be missing.

Thank you for reading this and I hope someone has a brilliant idea of where Harriett was hiding.

Best wishes

Kent Lookup Requests / Amy Wood - Lenham, Kent.
« on: Wednesday 01 December 10 09:49 GMT (UK)  »
Is it possible to find the maiden name of Amy who married Philip Wood.  Amy was born in Lenham 1816 and married Philip Wood born in 1815 in Lenham, Kent.  I have found them living at Ham Lane, Lenham, Kent on the 1841 census but I am unable to go back any further and therefore unable to find the maiden name of Amy. I don't know the name of Philip Woods parents but know that they were all Agricultural Labours in living in Lenham, Kent.
Philip and Amy Wood.  On the 1851 census they were living at Douglas Cottage, Lenham, Kent.  They had 12 children altogether.  Two died I believe.
Thank you for any help

Hertfordshire / Robinson Family of Cheshunt
« on: Monday 04 October 10 03:46 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if some kind person could possibly direct me to a way of finding where two of my ancestors worked, please.  One was a Herbert Robinson born in 1854 and whose occupation on the 1871 census was a page.  On the 1881 census was a butler and his sister Emily, born in 1856, on the 1871, is classed as a Ladies maid.   They were born and lived out their lives in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire. I cannot view the 1871 but have found their occupation on the census for 1881 when they were back home with their parents for the census day. I should think they both worked in Cheshunt or certainly nearby but for whom is the question.  Would have to be a house of some standing in the community.   Is there a website to find, I wonder where they list servants.
I might be asking too much and so my apologies if I am.
Look forward to hearing your comments and thank you in advance

London and Middlesex / Tram death
« on: Friday 27 August 10 04:43 BST (UK)  »
My great Grandfather James Warner was killed by a Tram between 1881 and 1891.  He lived in Shoreditch and so I believe it must have been in that area.  He was married to Eliza and they had six children.
Is there a website that I can search for his accident/death?
Thank you for your help.
