Cork / CREEDEN Family?
« on: Saturday 29 June 13 22:25 BST (UK)  »
Looking to find origins of a John Creeden. Supposedly originally came from Cork. John was born circa 1769. He ended up in Somerset, England. Married a Jane Wilson. Their children were - John (1803), Martha (1804), Joseph (1808), Jane (1810), James (1812), and Mary (1817). They were all born in Somerset (Street & Blackford). He died in Blackford Somerset in 1847. Anyone knowing of the Creeden name originating or common to Cork Ireland? Any information appreciated. THANKS

Tyrone / Maguire/Campbell
« on: Saturday 29 June 13 16:39 BST (UK)  »
Would love to trace further back on my Maguire ancestors but have reached a seemingly dead end. What I do know - Edward Maguire was married to Anna Campbell. They may have possibly married near Fintona circa 1830ish as one of the son's is listed as born Fintona. They had the following children - James E. Maguire, born March 8, 1831; Charles Maguire, born November 14, 1835 (Fitona); Edward Maguire, born February 14, 1837; Stewart Maguire, born October 18, 1845 and Catherine Maguire, born circa 1846?. The 4 sons all emigrated to the USA (Indiana/Ohio) over the years. All married except Edward but only Charles & Stewart had children. My Great Grandmother was Catherine, she remained in Ireland - she apparently never married but did have 6 children. Edward died in Killycurragh on March 20, 1889 and is buried in Drumnakilly. No idea when Anna died but was before Edward (buried same place). Catherine died in Killycurragh in 1902 and was buried with her parents. We visited Drumnakilly CofI church when in Ireland in 2004 but there were no headstones for them and later learned the church's record books had gone missing so cannot confirm where exactly they are buried. If anyone has any knowledge of Edward Maguire & Anna Campbells' forebears would love to hear from you. THANKS

Tyrone / McCutcheon's of Tyrone
« on: Saturday 29 June 13 16:21 BST (UK)  »
I have been searching for the origins in Tyrone of our McCutcheon's for quite awhile. My Great Grandfather was William, born sometime between 1865 and 1873 (I have found 3 different dates in Canadian records). He emigrated to Canada circa 1887. All Canadian records that list his parents name them as John McCutcheon and Mary McFarland. All records just say he/they were from Tyrone - nothing any more specific. In 1891, his brother Samuel emigrated to Canada with a Thomas McFarland - passenger list just says they were both adults. Both headed "west" and that's all we know about Samuel. In 1894, William returned to Ireland and brought his mother over - passenger list says he was 25, she was 50 - but she died in 1899 and death registration says she was 78!!! I believe this family may have been connected to a McFarland family that lived in the Dunbreen/Tattynure area of Tyrone. Samuel McFarland and his wife emigrated to Canada circa 1930 - they ended up in the same town and my mother remembers visiting them with her Grandmother. Samuel had 2 sisters who married Wilson brothers and they also ended up here. Samuel McF's parents were James McF and Eliza Wasson. James McF's parents were David McF and Matilda Stewart. I think possibly our Mary McF McCutcheon may have somehow been related to James or David but I have not been able to find the connection. The IGI has a son Thomas listed for David but it is a submitted record and says Thomas died in 1888 or so but I wonder if he really emigrated to Canada in 1891 with Samuel McCutcheon? I have all but exhausted resources hunting for these mysterious McCutcheon's so if anyone could supply any new info that would shed light on just where in Tyrone they came from it would be greatly appreciated. THANKS

Tyrone / McFarland's - Dunbreen/Tattynure areas
« on: Monday 06 April 09 23:12 BST (UK)  »
Looking for any possible McCutcheon's that can trace their family history back to Tyrone County, Northern Ireland to a John McCutcheon and a Mary McFarland. My Great Grandfather was their son William McCutcheon (born 1865-1870). He emigrated to Canada (Ontario) in 1887. He had at least one brother we know of, Samuel who also emigrated to Canada in 1891 with a possible cousin Thomas McFarland. Samuel McCutcheon headed “West” and all contact was lost - as did the Thomas McFarland. They may have ended up in the USA or western Canada. In 1894, William returned to NI and brought their mother Mary (McFarland) McCutcheon to Canada. She died in Ontario in 1899. Her age on death registration was 78 BUT her age on passenger listing from 1894 was only 50. It is possible that these McCutcheon’s & McFarland’s originate from around the Dunbreen/Tattynure areas of Tyrone County but I have been unable to trace them. Mary (McFarland) McCutcheon may be related to the following McFarland's -

If the above information connects with your family history in any way OR you have any info about the families, I would love to hear from you – please feel free to contact me.

Have just discovered more information about the McFarland family I am trying to connect with..... I now strongly believe that my Great Great Grandmother, Mary McFarland was a sister of David McFarland and a daughter of James McFarland......... the records below were submitted to the LDS but I believe this is the family I am looking for AND that the Thomas, born 1870 and listed as died 1888, may not have died in 1888 BUT may have been the Thomas McFarland that emigrated to Canada in 1891 with my Great Grandfather's brother Samuel McCutcheon........

Tyrone / Drumnakilly Church Records
« on: Wednesday 03 December 08 14:06 GMT (UK)  »
I believe the church in Drumnakilly we visited when in Tyrone was a C of I.... supposedly my Great Great Grandmother and her parents were buried in this churchyard but there was no headstone(s) and at the time, apparently the record book about burials had gone missing. I was just wondering if anyone might know if the records/book might have been found?? Would very much like to confirm whether or not my GG Grandmother and her parents were buried somewhere around this church. Their names would have been Edward Maguire, Anna (Campbell) Maguire and daughter Catherine Maguire. Edward Maguire died March 20 1889 at Killycurragh; believe Anna died before him but have no date; Catherine Maguire died 1902 at Killycurragh, age about 56.

Any information pertaining to the Drumnakilly C of I and their records greatly appreciated.
