Derbyshire / Finney, Fernell and Keeler Hall, Chesterfield
« on: Thursday 06 September 18 14:48 BST (UK)  »

Several years ago I was given some notes on the Fynney/Finney families of Derbyshire dating roughly from 1596 to the 20th century. These notes contain no sources but show dates of births, marriages and deaths of many Derbyshire Finneys and their spouses. In some instances mention is made of details contained in wills.
I have researched some of these persons and expanded certain lines and have found that generally the details recorded are correct.
Reference is made to a Thomas Fynney born 1776-1847 and a marriage to a Harriet (Harriot) Fernell 1786-1850, I have found three children for these; William, Charles and John Fernel Fynney.
With regards to Harriet the notes say that she was the daughter of Captain Fernell of “Keeler Hall”, Chesterfield. I have been unable to discover any reference to this hall does this mean anything to anyone?
Family Search show her father as John Burgoyne Fernell 1733-1789. Her mother was Betty Adlington 1750-1797.
Any help would be appreciated.

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / The General Cemetery, Valley Road, Hull
« on: Wednesday 20 December 17 18:23 GMT (UK)  »
I am attempting to locate the grave of Augusta Matilda Winterbottom (Nee Fynney) who died in July 1865 aged 55 years and her granddaughter Ella Maud Depree who died 1891 age 14 years. We have correspondence that shows they are in the same plot at The General Cemetery, Valley Road, Hull.
Internet research seems to indicate that this cemetery is no longer in use and in a poor condition although some reference can be seen of recent restoration.
Does anyone know what the current situation is with this cemetery and where the grave records might be achieved?

Thanks. Boy Scout.

Armed Forces / Could someone identify please
« on: Thursday 14 September 17 17:07 BST (UK)  »
Unable to attach informing me that there was already an attachment so trying a new post.

Is it possible for someone to identify this man's uniform.

My guess would be that he is from the RAF/RFC but I have very limited experience on this subject.

This picture is in amongst some family pictures but is unidentified.

He could be William James Depree born 1881

World War One / Frederick Adolphus Fielding
« on: Friday 08 September 17 15:01 BST (UK)  »
I have the attestation papers for the Canadian Expedition Force of a Frederick Adolphus Fielding number 2839.
I suspect that this man must be a Captain Frederick Adolphus Fynney who died of his wounds in 1918 for this to be correct he must have transferred. In order to be sure I would like to see the Canadian service records of 2839 Fielding.
Can someone point me in the right direction on how to go about this.

Thank you

Armed Forces / Froces War Records
« on: Saturday 16 January 16 17:44 GMT (UK)  »
I am currently trying to identify a WW1 soldier, Frederick Adolphus Fynney, Gunner 29757 with the RFA. I wish to see if he is part of the Fynney family I am researching. He is possibly from Staffordshire I have his medal card but that takes the matter no further.
I am considering a subscription to
https://www.forces-war-records.co.uk/#
and I was hoping that someone might be in a position to tell me what I am likely to see for my money on this site as I have not used it before.

Staffordshire / William Baddeley born Burslem 1890
« on: Monday 16 November 15 17:41 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to build up a picture of a William Baddeley, born 1890, Burslem, to William and Elizabeth Baddeley (Nee Price.) He was one of four children. William was killed in WW1 in 1918, service number, 64242, Gunner, Royal Garrison Artillery. 319th Siege Battery. He is remembered on most sites including CWGC as simply, W. Baddeley, with no mention of any family. He was in fact married to Beatrice Plant and according to his service record they lived at 84 Junction Road, Leek they had one son William Cyril Baddeley born 1916. He was a drayman and porter on the railways and is also commemorated on some Railway sites and at Stoke-On Trent Railway Station.
Ideally I would like to find a photograph as I intend to record his details on the IWM site, Lives of the First World War. Is this man on anyone's tree?

Thanks

Family History Beginners Board / Letters of Administration
« on: Sunday 05 May 13 11:10 BST (UK)  »
In the past I have obtained wills from The Principal Registry Family Division, First Avenue House. I now wish to obtain copy of Letters of Administration in respect of another person who died in 1892.

I was wondering if anyone knows if you apply to the same address and if so what is the likely cost I think wills are £11 now.

Thanks

Isle of Man / Quayle of Sefton Hotel
« on: Sunday 14 April 13 10:38 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone have a Jeanie Quayle of the Sefton Hotel, Douglas on their tree.

I do not have a birth date but she married a James Clegg of Rochdale in 1899.

People I am researching are on the wedding list and I would like to establish their relationships to the Quayle family.

A quick look at the surnames list on RootsChat shows that the Quayle name is not uncommon in the I. O. M.

Thanks
