Lancashire / Annie Dowler, Hulme, late 19c
« on: Sunday 21 March 10 16:47 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

I wondered if anybody could help me in trying to find a certain Annie Dowler who is recorded as the mother of my gggrandfather, James Thomas Hardy. He was born in 1896, and Annie Dowler and William Hardy are recorded as his parents. Also, they are recorded as his parents in St. Wilfrid's R.C. Parish records as a note on his marriage record in 1923 to Sarah Ross.

I have hit a brick wall with Annie Dowler, as I am unable to find a marriage record between her and William. There are a couple of Annie Dowler's on the census around the Chorlton registration district, but one appears to be potentially 10 years to old, and one 10 years or so too young!

James Thomas was born in 16 John Wood Street, Salford on 5 Sep 1896. If anybody could shed any light on Annie Dowler, I would be grateful!

Many thanks,
Karl

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Manchester Electoral Roll Lookup 1950's/1960's
« on: Monday 18 May 09 20:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I wondered if somebody might be able to look up a family for me in the Manchester City Electoral Rolls in Central Library (I would do it, but it's a bit hard here in Ireland! :)

The family lived at 7 Howard Road, Manchester 22 (Northenden, I think).

There was J.H.P. King, and a daughter, (*). They were definitely resident between 1959 and 1970.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Many thanks,
Karl

Could SKS with access to the 1841 census possibly do a lookup?

In the 1851 census, Sarah was recorded as a widow and they were living at Calder Street/Wharton Street No. 5, in the ecclesiastical parish of St Bartholomews.

Cheshire / ALLMARK - Chester, Early to mid 19th Century
« on: Friday 22 April 05 14:12 BST (UK)  »
My gg grandmother was Annie ALLMARK, b 1881 in Manchester and her father was George ALLMARK b. 1839 in Chester.

I know that George's parents were Robert (1814-1849) and Sarah ALLMARK. According to the 1851 census (thanks to Peter Bennett), Sarah was living on Trafford Street, Chester, with her children: George (b. 1839), Hannah (b. 1845), Robert (b. 1847), and Catherine (b. 1849). She also lived next door to Thomas and Sarah Allmark and their children: Benjamin (1838-1898), Mary (b. 1833), Thomas (b. 1836), Ann (b. 1842), and William (b. 1846).

I suspect that Robert and Thomas were probably brothers.

Does anybody recognise any of these people?

If they do mean anything to you, I would very much like to hear from you.

Many thanks

Cheshire Lookup Requests / 1861, Sale, FLAHERTY & THOMPSON
« on: Friday 08 April 05 00:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

Would somebody with access to the 1861 census for Sale see if they could locate:

Thomas Flaherty (b. approx 1839, Ireland)
Margaret Thompson (b. approx 1841, Ireland)

They married in 1863 in Altrincham, and their marriage cert states their addresses simply as 'Sale'.

In 1871 they resided in Chapel Street, so I suspect they are living in the vicinity of Chapel St/Egerton St.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated!

Many thanks

Lancashire Lookup Requests / 1851 lookup - BELL - Manchester
« on: Thursday 07 April 05 12:00 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Could somebody with access to the 1851 census for Manchester tell me who was living at 13 Tame Street, Ancoats? (I think it is in Ancoats, because the person I am looking for was baptised at St Andrew's, Ancoats on 19/05/1850).

In 1850, my ggggrandfather, George Bell was born to James Bell and Elizabeth Champion at this address.

Their other children who would have been alive at the time were: Margaret b. 1845, and Sarah b. 1848.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated!

Thanks

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / 1841/51 or 61 - ALLMARK, Chester
« on: Friday 18 March 05 23:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

I am looking for any trace of the family of Robert ALLMARK and his wife Sarah in any of the 1841/51/61 censuses.

They had a son, George ALLMARK b. 1839 in Chester. He was baptised the following year in St John the Baptist church, Chester.

In the 1871 census, George's entry is:

RG10-3722-47-14 - 56 Oak St, Monks Coppenhall, Crewe
George Allmark, 30, Unmarried, Occ. Labourer in Iron Works, b. Chester, Cheshire

Any help in locating this family would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Karl

Cheshire Completed Lookup Requests / 1841/51/61 Lookup ALLMARK, Chester
« on: Friday 18 March 05 17:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all

I have hit a bit of a brickwall with my ggggrandfathers family who I know came from Chester.

George Allmark, b.1839 in Chester and christened at St John the Baptist was the son of Robert and Sarah Allmark.

I have found George on the 1871 census living as a lodger in Crewe, however there is no trace of his parents.

Would anybody be kind enough to see if they can see any trace of this family in the 1841/51/61 censuses?

They were likely to be living in the St John the Baptist parish in 1841 as George was baptised in 1840.

Any help is gratefully received!

Thanks
Karl
