Essex / Manningtree Parish Registers
« on: Sunday 26 August 18 12:05 BST (UK)  »
I am seeking help with a small mystery.
I have been looking at the Manningtree parish registers in the 1940s and 1950s. A lot of the brides, grooms and fathers of each have their occupation recorded as B.X.P.
I cannot find any occupation which would be abbreviated this way and wonder if it was a place of work rather than an occupation.

Durham / Elsberry - Fenwick - Pittington
« on: Tuesday 30 December 14 12:01 GMT (UK)  »
One pair of my 4x great grandparents were William Elsberry and Jane Fenwick who were married at Pittington on 3rd November 1792. I have no information about their dates (or even years) of birth or their parents. To add to my problems being an old Essex boy the county of Durham is way out of my comfort zone when it comes to researching.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Sussex Lookup Requests / Brighton marriage 1916
« on: Wednesday 30 October 13 10:48 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

This is my first post outside my local counties of Essex and Suffolk.

According to FreeBMD my grandmother's sister Lottie Scammell married William Liddington in Brighton in1916. They had a child in 1918 but Lottie remarried in 1920.

I am looking for details about William Liddington ( age and or father's name ) and if possible what happened to him. A casualty in the 1st world war seems the most likely but I cannot trace him in the usual sources.

Can anyone help me please to at least get a start to identifying William.

Thanks in anticipation

Suffolk / Queens Road Felixstowe
« on: Tuesday 03 April 12 09:40 BST (UK)  »
Does anyone know whether there is still a house called Neuheim in Queens Road Felixstowe. In 1911 it was in use as private girls school - headmistress Elisabeth Jutson.

Thanks in advance if anyone has any knowledge of this building.

Suffolk Lookup Requests / Pilgrim Bury St Edmunds
« on: Tuesday 20 March 12 09:41 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone please help me by looking at Bury St Edmunds baptism records for any Pilgrims about 1774

I am specifically looking for a Roger Pilgrim who according to the 1851 census was born in Bury St Edmunds in 1774. To confuse matters the 1841 census shows him born in Essex!

Many thanks

Essex Lookup Requests / Ridgewell marriage
« on: Friday 04 March 11 15:28 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help by looking up the Ridgewell parish records for marriage between William Ruggles and Hannah Osborne in the first quarter of 1870. I am assuming it was at Ridgewell as Hannah came from that village. I am interested in the names of the two fathers and the date of marriage.

Thanks

Essex / Castle Hedingham baptism
« on: Sunday 26 December 10 11:52 GMT (UK)  »
I would be pleased if anyone could suggest some background or ideas on the following baptism at St Nicholas Castle Hedingham -

The transcription from FreeReg reads "Clopton Beadle a Seaperate sone was baptiz by Soldgiers ye 26th October 1642". I have looked at the parish register image and this seems a fair translation.

There is another baptism about the same time of a Seaperate daughter of someone also being baptised by solders.

I know this is during the civil war but why would soldiers be performing baptisms ?
Would the word seaperate refer to parents being separatists or the child being an orphan?

Thanks
