So as you do over the past 10 years or so I have got carried away. I researched back my direct line as far as possible and then all lines coming forward. I now have several trees and a 170 page write up. I have been recently updating all my research but I need a numbering or indexing systems to make the write up easier to follow.

Any advice on indexing or even the layout of my write up would be appreciated.

Currently my write up starts from my oldest ancestor and works down each line. E.g. The write up goes from ancestor 1 and goes through his children and their children and several generations on until the are no more. It then goes back 60 pages later to ancestor 1's brother and repeats down this line. Is there a better way?

Cheshire Lookup Requests / Birkenhead parish records birth look up
« on: Sunday 14 October 18 20:19 BST (UK)  »
If anyone has access to the Birkenhead parish records i'm looking for the parents of

Alexander F M Thorn and Beatrice May McCallum Thorn

Alexander's birth was registered in the 2nd quarter of 1904 in Birkenhead
Beatrice was born on the 15th May 1906 in Higher Tranmere, Birkenhead

The 1911 census gives their parents as Thomas Halliday and Ellen Cecilia Thorn. Thomas and Ellen married in 1909. Ellen was a spinster so i'm trying to figure out if they had the children out of wedlock or maybe they are niece and nephew of Ellen, or something else!

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Completed - 1888 death record help
« on: Wednesday 19 September 18 23:20 BST (UK)  »
Hi all

I've been out of the game for a while and trying to get my eye in on some old handwritting. I think i'm pretty happy with the first column being John Halliday, farmer deceased and Agnes Halliday but what is Agnes's maiden name?

Also, what does column 2 say? I can only get Bronchitis?

Thanks

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Occupation help
« on: Saturday 22 July 17 18:07 BST (UK)  »
I can't quite figure out what the occupation is from this 1901 census. It's the one on the top line - ________ apprentice.

The census in 1911 has him as a horse keeper.

Hope someone can help..

Dumfriesshire / Halliday, Moffat and Smith families of Moffat/ Wamphray 1700's
« on: Thursday 05 January 17 10:40 GMT (UK)  »
After a break of a few years i'm back looking into my family history and have some gaps i'm looking to fill, namely where did siblings John Halliday ch. 17/9/1731 and Christopher Holliday (Halliday) ch. 2/7/1727 go?

The information I have so far:

- Both were baptised in Oldtown/ Auldtown, Moffat.
- Their parents were Nineon Holiday (Halliday) and Katherine Hunter.
- They had 2 further siblings; James who moved to Panlands farm in Johnstone parish and Jean who married William Leithhead of Moffat.

- John married Jean Moffat of the Craigbeck Moffats in 1776 and they had at least 3 children; William (1776), Ninian (1779) and James (1782).
- The last reference I have for John and Jean is their son James' baptism record of 1782 which places them at Oldton (Auldtown).

- Christopher married Jean Smith 2/12/1752 (Moffat parish)
- Christopher and Jean had 4 children; Cathrain (Katherine), Mary, Jean and Margaret
- Cathrain's baptism record (1755) places them at Frenchland - a farm near Moffat
- The last reference I have for Christopher and family is from their last childs baptism record (Margaret 1771) which places them in the parish of Crawford and Leadhills where they have been recorded through OPR's at Granes and Cowhill.
- There are no further records of Christopher and Jean or their children.

With the odd exception Christopher and John's family were buried in Moffat or Wamphray Churchyards. Jean Moffat's family were with the exception of one sister who is unknown were all buried at Moffat. Jean Smith's family is unknown.

Any help will be appreciated.

Does anyone here have Halliday connections in Trinidad? I have a John James Halliday in my tree. Born 18th June 1870 in Moffat, Dumfriesshire. I have found him in numerous travel records between 1911 and 1936 travelling back and forth between Trinidad and Scotland. His occupation is mostly given as a planter. Any info or where I might find records for Trinidad would be greatly appreciated.

John married Mary between September 1922 and August 1924 but I have not found where nor her surname.

The last record I have for John and Mary is them departing from Dover to Trinidad on 17th October 1936.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Pither family of Tadley

It's a long shot but I have some old photos of which 3 I suspect are Edward Stephen Pither (1859 - 1935).

If anyone has Pither family from the Tadley area (and even better photos) please get in touch.

Scotland / Proclaimed twice in the same day - Was this common?
« on: Saturday 17 August 13 20:11 BST (UK)  »
I have just came across 2 OPR marriage records (Moffat parish, Dumfries) where the people i was looking for were proclaimed twice on the same day. One of them says "was proclaimed for the third and last time being twice proclaimed this day because of the urgency of their affair"

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=657905.msg5038354#new

Did this happen often that couples were proclaimed twice in a day?

What might have been the urgency/ what circumstance might this occur?
