« on: Friday 18 March 11 12:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all.  I have been researching now for many months and I have a road block I can't seem to get past.

My Grandmother: May Olive Josephine Martin born 6Th November 1915 in 3 New Rd Blackwater Hawley. In the Sub District of Farnborough in the county of Southampton. Father: Joe Martin, Lance Corporal Military Mounted Police. Mother: Eliza Martin nee Fowler. Birth registered 24Th Nov 1915.

On the 30th January 1937 she married my Grandfather Eric Alfred Collingwood Bush. She was 21 He was 20.  They married in the register office in district of Edmonton in the county of Middlesex. At the time of marriage her address is registered at 5 St Mary St Kennington No profession is listed.

I know that the couple had 7 Boys and from talking to those still living I have there identity documents for there passage to Australia these were issued on the 17th of October 1955.

I know that May and Eric were both were the only children of there parents.

What I need to find out is what happend in between birth and marriage for May Olive Josephine Martin.  I am told Mays Parents died when she was very young and she was placed in an orphanage. I want to find out these details and I just cant seem to locate anything. So I am asking if anyone else can help me find them. I am very stuck with this I don't know what to do next......Both Eric and Mays fathers are listed as deceased on the marriage certificate.

Hello everyone,

Since I last posted I have gotten a bit further down the track. I now have birth certificates for my grandparents and there marriage certificate. I have a problem though trying to get further back in my grandmothers family. I have so far there names and while going through family stuff from Grandads belongings after his death we have found amongst them Nannas parents marriage certificate.  I am having a major issue though trying to locate information on there births and deaths.

So from what I have so far.

Nanna: May Olive Joesphine Bush nee Martin born 6/11/1915
Her Mother: Eliza Martin nee Fowler
Her Father: Joe Martin

Joe and Eliza Married 4th August 1905
The marriage Certificate says Joe's father was William Martin and Eliza's father was a William Fowler the witnesses are Elizabeth Fowler and William Fowler
This all happened in the Parish Church of Bramley in the County of Southhampton.
This is all I have so far I have browsed everywhere I just cant figure where to go next I am not sure if I am even on the right track now.
If someone could help I would be very greatful.

Also what can I gain from ordering Death certificates is there anything aside from there causes of death that helps with anything I trying to stick with a bit of a tight budget.

« on: Wednesday 04 August 10 11:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi again people you have been a great help to me this far. My question tonight is. My grandmother born in 1915 in England her name May Olive Joesphine Martin born 6 Nov 1915. She was orphaned some time during her early childhood and removed from the orphanage by a family member once she was old enough to earn her keep. My grandmother gave me this information so I am sure that this is correct. We dont however have a name of the orphanage or its where abouts. All I know is its in England somewhere. I have no idea how I look for this information. I have found all sorts of other stuff but no referance to this.
Thanks in advance

Family History Beginners Board / My Grandparents Parents
« on: Wednesday 28 July 10 11:58 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the Parents of my grandparents. I am Lesley-Jane Bush I reside in Australia. My father is Micheal Roger Bush he was one of 7 boys. His parents were Eric Alfred Collingwood Bush and May Olive Joesphine Martin. Married in Early 1937 in Edmonton Middlesex. They immigrated to Australia in Late 1955 with 6 of there sons.

Alfred was born 25 October 1916 in Edmonton . He was a member of the 3rd Enfield Boys Brigade His Mothers Maiden Name was Harvey. He also served in the second world war.

May was born 6 November 1915 in Hartley Wintney, Hampshire. Her mothers Maiden Name was Fowler.

I am told that May became an orphan at a young age. She was never adopted though. She lived in the orphanage until old enough to work when apparently a relative got her out to use her to make money.
