Clackmannanshire / Denholms In Alva
« on: Friday 24 April 09 19:59 BST (UK)  »
Anyone researching this surname in Alva please let me know - trying to find ultimately where the denholms that ended up in Alva circa 1815-1820 were from......

I believe there may still be denholms there that are related to my partner - his branch left in 1908 for Canada, but have found death records into the 1940's for relatives of his family....

Thanks

Hey all

I an underemployed guy in Canada, whose ancestry includes research in North America and the British Isles....  I've been doing work on my own tree since 1983 (before the internet).  I have the time to help people with their research to get them started, or for friends you may have that you'd like to give a gift to.  My web site is http://www. madnesspersonified .com  (spaces added....   ) and there is a bit of info there....   I can help you out for an hour if you'd like....  I do enjoy the scavenger hunts on here, and enjoy helping out the community here, but the bills have to be paid too  ;-)

Anyways........  Just thought I'd put that out there....  My email is on the site, and the site does accept paypal :-)

Library and FHS Lookups / National Archives of Scotland look up with reference
« on: Thursday 25 August 05 00:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi - I hope I am putting this in the right place.  I found a link on here recently that led me to a reference code for a letter of reference for a relative of mine in 1808.  I have found 2 different family trees for this family, and have become quite confused.  This letter is the one ( I assume) that an uncle wrote to recommend his nephew for a promotion in the Military.  I would assume that he would explain his family connection in the letter - to show his (the nephews) pedigree and worth  :-)

Anyways - I live in canada - so the chance to get to England and Scotland is about 5 years away in our long term plan.  If anyone is happening to go to the Archives and could get a copy of this letter it would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the reference information off of the online database.

Papers of the Dundas Family of Melville, Viscounts Melville (Melville Castle Papers)
Requests made to Henry Dundas and Robert Dundas, 1st and 2nd Viscounts Melville and their successors, for appointments and favours, 1780-1882. Military requests are listed at GD51/6/1-767, civil patronage requests are listed at GD51/6/768-2380. The first name given in each entry is the sender of the letter (sponsor); the second part is the office or favour sought; the last name is the person for whom the post or favour is requested.

Cumberland Lookup Requests / Bastardy Orders - Carlisle record office
« on: Monday 22 August 05 20:33 BST (UK)  »
Is there anyone who can help out with a look up at the Carlisle record office?  I have a William Ivison born 1870/1871 (3 months old on census date).  He was born to Mary Wilson (married surname Pilfold - but shows up as Penfold on a few documents).  I have my suspicions that he was fathered by a man named Ivison, because the whole family changed their name by 1872.  I am in Canada - and can't seem to find these online, and the hopes of getting to England are slim in the near future.

Any help would be appreciated

Derbyshire Lookup Requests / 1851 derby look up frearson
« on: Sunday 21 August 05 22:55 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for a William and Mary Frearson in 1851.  They are both born approx 1815, and Mary is born in Quarndon (sp).  They were married in Aug 11 1850 in St Werbaugh Derby, Derbyshire, and found in 1861 in St Peter's.  They should (hopefully) have children living with them named Fearn (among the possible children there are Catharine, William, Mary Ann and James A).  Curious as to the children in the household, and what names and birthplaces are given.  This is one of two options for breaking a brick wall.....

Thanks to anyone who can help.....

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / 1851 census lookup - burgin
« on: Wednesday 17 August 05 00:00 BST (UK)  »
Is there any chance of a look up on the 1851 census for the Scholes/Thorpe Hesley area for Joseph Burgan (Burgin) wife Elizabeth and daughter Matilda (she should be 11).  There may also be Thomas and Ann Strother at the same residence.

Thanks a bunch

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / burgin/bergan 1841/51 lookup....
« on: Wednesday 27 April 05 05:36 BST (UK)  »
Is there anyone who would be able to do a look up for a Matilda Burgin (Bergan) in the Wentworth/Thorpe hesley/Scholes/Kimberworth area for 1841/51?  She was born approx 1839/1843 and trying to verify that the one i found on IGI is the correct one (and if so - who might be at the household- verifying fathers age and any siblings....)  I doubt there would be many - but my fingers are crossed....  It's a brick wall on my grandad's side - and as he is now 82 - I truly enjoy calling him with new info of what I have found.....

Anyways - enough rambling - any help I can get is truly appreciated...

Thanks!!!

Tom
