I started a topic on the Monmouthshire wales board (Birth place of Joanna cante/caute c 1849)
On the 1851 census Dennis Donovan and Mary Donovan give their place of birth as Schull, County Cork Ireland. Mary sappears to have left ireland pre 1848 and JOANNA CANTY mmn DONAVAN was born 1848 Sept q in MAIDSTONE Kent, Volume 5 Page 351. It appears that Mary Donovan first went to London/Kent area met Mr Canty and had Johanna, the relationship seems to have not worked out and Mary ends up in Pontypool Monmouthshire and marries Dennis Donovan. I have a feeling that Mary and Dennis are first cousins. Are there any records for Schull, county cork, that may prove they are related. The potato famine started in early 1845 so it appears just after this they left Ireland. Are there any emigration records. Could Mary have travelled over with Mr Canty? Any help here would be appreciated
