Armed Forces / A Colour Sergeant deserter?
« on: Friday 19 October 18 08:54 BST (UK)  »
Thanks to your help I now know Ernest Hayes was a colour sergeant and there is a family story that he deserted but no proof of this.
However, I think I found him on a campaign medal list with a faint note next to his name about desertion but can’t make out the date.
How can I find out more?

Thank you

Armed Forces Resources / What is this rank?
« on: Thursday 18 October 18 14:20 BST (UK)  »
No military connections so apologies if I don't explain this well.  I've found a Sergeant listed on Form H for the 1901 census, Royal Barracks in Arran Quay Dublin.  There are 3 other sergeants listed after his name but the entry for my man says Co Sgt.....what does this mean?

thank you

Antrim / Ballymena marriage RAINEY.
« on: Tuesday 03 October 17 14:52 BST (UK)  »
This is my first step into Northern Irish records and I need some help please.  Helping a friend to find out the surname of her greatgrandmother who was the second wife and there may be a whiff of scandal.  I suggested a copy of her grandfather's birth certificate and not only are is there more than one registered in the same quarter and year but the GRONI requires the mother's maiden name, which is what we don't know!

It's possible that the above marriage of a William John Rainey is the second marriage and I'm hoping someone has access to this marriage registered in the Dec quarter 1883.

thank you

Waterford / Ballybricken marriage SULLIVAN/CARTY (CARTHY)
« on: Saturday 18 February 17 15:19 GMT (UK)  »
After 16 years have just found my first Irish record that gives me a clue to my great grandparents John SULLIVAN and Mary CARTY (sometimes CARTHY or McCARTY)

They settled in Liverpool about 1860 but daughter Margaret was born Waterford c1859 and this is the record I've just found, her baptism at Holy Trinity Without.  Would really appreciate any help to find the marriage of John and Mary...father of John might be Michael.

thank you
