Nottinghamshire / James Brooks
« on: Friday 27 April 12 23:31 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for any information about the parents of James Brooks of Nottinghamshire. He was a maltster and was born 1797-1801 in East Leake (according to either his marriage record or the census record). He married Hannah Ball 27 February 1823 in Gotham. They had 8 children. He passed away 27 February 1842 in Radford of jaundice. I have found him on the 1841 census, but am completely stumped on his parents!

Any info is greatly appreciated!

Bedfordshire / Elizabeth Boughton
« on: Sunday 26 June 11 05:26 BST (UK)  »
Hello All,

I am looking for information about an Elizabeth Boughton. She married William Gurney 28 May 1816 in Luton, Bedfordshire. Other than that, I know absolutely nothing about her or her family. I believe that William Gurney is from Hertfordshire, but after this discovery am unsure. I know that they had one child for sure. George William Gurney was born 3 March 1818 in Hemel Hempstead and was baptized in the non-conformist church.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Dorset / Naile family
« on: Saturday 14 May 11 23:50 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I am looking for any information on the Nail/Naile/Nayle family of Tarrant Rushton, Dorset.

The furthest ancestors of whom I know are John Nayle and Elizabeth. I found christening records for their two children in 1732 and 1733. I am unsure as to when either John or Elizabeth was born...

I am also looking for information on their son, Robert Naile and wife, Betty Treanes. Robert was christened 5 April 1732 in Tarrant Rushton. He married Betty Treanes 4 January 1751, also in Tarrant Rushton. I know nothing about Betty, although I found a probably sister named Mary who married a John Huzey, also in 1751 Tarrant Rushton.

Robert and Betty had three children. I am descended from their daughter, Rose.

Any information is greatly appreciated

Lanarkshire / Steel family
« on: Tuesday 04 January 11 04:10 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for information about my ancestor, Thomas Steel, and ancestors. According to his age at time of death on the death certificate from New York, he was born 11 December 1798 in Scotland.

I believe that I found a match on familysearch.com. On Thomas Steel's death certificate, the "month" category is blank. I believe (and hope) that it was not filled in at the time of death. I found a Thomas Steel who was born 12 November 1798 and baptized 18 November 1798 in Lanark, Lanarkshire, Scotland. The parents are listed at Robert Steel and Agnes Paterson. Agnes is the middle name of one of his daughters and the name does not appear in Thomas Steel's wife's family.

Thomas Steel married Elizabeth Douglas and immigrated to America sometime before 1842. I have searched familysearch.com for marriage records and have been unable to find any. I have also searched ancestry.com for immigration records and also have been unable to find anything.

The Steels have long been a brick wall for me and any information is greatly appreciated.

Thank you
-Kati

 Hello,
My name is Kati. I am looking for information on members of my Gurney ancestors in Hertsfordshire. Specifically, William Gurney, spouse and parents. William Gurney was born in approximately 1780-1790. I found a potential baptism record for William. In that baptism record, William was baptised in Bovington and his parents were listed as Ann Field and John Gurney. William married an Elizabeth (last name unknown). Their son, George W. Gurney, was born 3 March 1818 in Hemel Hempstead. According to George's marriage, William was a carpenter. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Powell in Nottingham
« on: Monday 06 December 10 16:32 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

My name is Kati and I live in the United States. I have traced some of my ancestors to Nottinghamshire but know very little about them. I believe that my ancestors were married in Nottinghamshire sometime before 1830 as their son was born in 1830.

The oldest name that I know of is John Powell; he was born in 1800 in Hinckley, Leicestershire (I'm not 100% sure of the location). He was a dairyman and married a woman named Sarah (I am unsure of her maiden name but according to census records, she was born in about 1792 in Barton, Nottinghamshire).

They had a son, George John Powell, born 18 July 1830. George John Powell married Mary Brooks 25 December 1856 at the parish church in Radford. Their son was also called George John Powell and was born 30 June 1853 or 1858. The family then migrated to Wisconsin.

Any information is greatly appreciated!
