Europe / GERMANY: Trying to Trace Julius
« on: Saturday 14 October 06 16:32 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Wonder if anyone can give me any tips of how to go about this with such little information.

My Gt Gt Grandfather was Julius Holz (he changed his name to Wood)

He only appears on the 1861 census with his family and there he uses the name Chas for some reason RG9 290 3 29

He married Elizabeth (formerly Proops) in 1859 this appears on the Jewish Marriage register it checks out as Elizabeth after Julius died marriage Asher Grodinski in 1873 as a widow as this also appears on the Jewish marriage registers. I have also got the birth and marriage certificate of Lewis my Gt Grandfather and their son name of father Julius Wood.

The main problem I have is that the census only states Germany I have found from the Jewish Marriage Register that Julius's fathers name was Mordecai Holz
but I do not know where to go from here can anyone help me.

The Common Room / Land Army Records
« on: Saturday 14 October 06 11:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi

My mum was in the Land Army during the second world war I am not sure where she was located probably would have been somewhere around Essex or Kent, I know this was before she married in 1946 as my dad was away at sea whilst she was in. Would anyone know where I might be able to find out any information about when she joined and where she was located.

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Help needed with look up please
« on: Sunday 01 October 06 11:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Can anyone help me I am looking for a family in the 1901 census
some ks did me a look for the 1891 some time ago but I have looked and looked through the 1901 and cannot find any of the family

The 1891 ref is RG12/121 folio 129 page 63

John Short 1859 St James
Jane 1860 City
John W 1880 St Ann's
Jane A 1883 St Ann's
Thomas A 1885 Lambeth
Carry M 1888 Lambeth
Louisa R 1890 Pancras

I have looked on the 1837 and found most of their births

Louisa Rebecca 1890 Pancras
Carrie Margaret 1887 Lambeth
Thomas Alfred 1886 Lambeth

I also know that they had another son before the 1901 census
Charles Short 1899 Pancras

Charles is my husband's grandfather and as far as we have been told he was the youngest of 13.

I also know that the parents John Short and Jane Sarah Short (nee Clark) were married in 1880, I have the 1881 census and 1891 but would love the 1901 but it may be me but I cannot find the no matter how ard I try.

Any information would be gratefully received.
