Derry (Londonderry) / Patrick Brown and Isabella Duffy
« on: Tuesday 23 August 16 16:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I am looking for information regarding the marriage of Patrick Brown and Isabella Duffy. I know from familysearch.org that two of their children were born in Glendermott parish: William Brown on April 29th 1865, and Annie Brown on February 14th 1868. I have not been able to find any baptismal records for these children. I would also like to find out the names of any other children Patrick and Isabella may have had.
Thanks in advance.

Derry (Londonderry) / The marriage of Richard Gallagher and Ellen Clarke
« on: Saturday 16 May 15 22:48 BST (UK)  »
I am unable to find any record of the marriage of Richard Gallagher and Ellen Clarke. I know that the couple were resident in Derry, as Richard died at his residence, 65 William Street, Derry city, on January 13th 1903. He is described as being from 'old Derry stock' in his obituary in the Derry Journal. His widow, Ellen, and their children, are recorded as residing at William Street, in the 1901 census, and at Lone Moor Road in the 1911 census. The earliest birth record that I have been able to find for any of their children is for Francis Gallagher, who was born in Derry city on July 22nd 1870.

Any help locating this marriage would be greatly appreciated!!!

I have been trying to find the birth record for Sean Dolan (or John Dolan), in order to clarify who his mother was, but as yet have been unsuccessful. It is recorded in Derry newspapers that Sean was a prominent Derry Republican in the 1930's and early 40's, and that he was interned in 1940 along with seven other Derrymen. He was also a musician and the secretary of Derry G.A.A. Board. He died aged 28 in Waterside Hospital on October 25th 1941, and was buried in Ardmore Roman Catholic cemetery. According to Sean's death notice in the Derry Journal his father was John D. Dolan, of Albany, New York, and his aunt was Margaret Curran, of 12 Union Street, Waterside. I know for a fact that Margaret never married, so presumably the maiden name of Sean's mother was Curran

Any information about the identity of Sean Dolan's mother, his date of birth, and birthplace, or other relevant info, would be gratefully appreciated.

Brendan

« on: Wednesday 08 April 15 05:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi all, great news.

19th century editions of the Derry Journal have started being uploaded onto the British Newspaper Archive website. A subscription is required. The newspapers are also available to view on Findmypast. 869 editions have been added so far, for years from 1866-69 and 1874-77. The British Newspaper Archive intends to ultimately include editions from 1825 up to 1955.

Happy hunting!!!

Also, for Dohertys that lived at Moore Street (or Munn Street), Derry city, from 1880 through to (and including) 1886.

Hi,

I'm looking for the details of the marriage of Francis Doherty, who married a woman called Elizabeth, in Derry city (probably in Long Tower) in 1864. Also what is Elizabeth's maiden name?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Derry (Londonderry) / Old Age Pension details of Ellen Doherty
« on: Monday 14 October 13 15:25 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am looking for the details for two Ellen Dohertys recorded on the Old Age Pension census search forms of 1908-21. This information will appear in Josephine Masterson's book "Ireland, 1841/1851 Census Abstracts (Northern Ireland)", or from the same source on the ancestry website (which I don't have a subscription for). I would be very grateful to anybody out there, who has access to either of these sources, that would pass on the information to me.

Best wishes,
Brendan

Limerick / Clondermott in Limerick?
« on: Friday 17 May 13 10:38 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I recently discovered a British army discharge record on the 'findmypast' website (dated to the year 1799) for a 'Private John Duffie' of the 73rd Regiment of Foot, whose place of birth is given as having been "in the parish of Clondermott in or near the market town of Limerick in the county of Limerick"

I am very interested in this document as my own Duffy ancestors came from the parish of Clondermott (now Glendermot) in county Derry, and if I'm not mistaken there is no place with that name within county Limerick. However, I could be wrong!!!

Does anybody out there know where 'Clondermott' in county Limerick could actually be?

Regards,
Brendan
