The Common Room / How old can a mother be to give birth?
« on: Tuesday 15 November 22 11:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

I am researching the GEEN family from Parracombe, Devon.
I am specifically searching for the baptism of Agnes Geen. She married 1766 and was buried in 1816.
There are two choices of baptism
1 - 3rd May 1741 in Martinhoe, Devon the next parish to Parracombe. This date ties with her age at death  which was 75. BUT she would then have had 3 children in her forties, the last at 46. The naming pattern also adds up, her mother also being Agnes.

2 6th May 1747 in Parracombe. The other trees on ancestry have all chosen this option, but have not bothered to find other children apart from their direct line, and have all taken the info from each other.

I chose the first option, but am a bit worried about her having children so late. My Nan had a child at 44 but is 46 reasonable gien lack of health care at the time?

Which option would you chose?

Cornwall / GEEN alias NICOLS of Gerrans, Cornwall
« on: Saturday 05 November 22 16:46 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

I am researching my family from Parracome, Devon. RICHARD GEEN had 6 children baptised in Parracombe but the the 7th child was baptised PHILIP GEEN alias NICOL
I then found lots of GEEN alias NICHOL in Gerrans Cornwall. Is anyone researching them?
Why would you have an alias, and why keep it going for so long? Were they a notorious family? Please, please let me find some smugglers.

Somerset / ANSTIE of Dulverton
« on: Thursday 09 June 22 16:40 BST (UK)  »
Hello
is anyone researching the ANSTIE family of Dulverton? I have looked at Parish Records from 1558 and suspect ROBERT and JOANE are the parents of JOHN [  - 1590], WILLIAM [   -1598] AND  DAVID [     -1597].
I cannot go back any further, I don't know where these men were baptised.  A source tells me that they came to Somerset from Cambridgeshire. But why would they? Does anyone know of a link between the two counties?
many thanks

Herefordshire / KEDERT ~ KEDWARD ~ KEDARD
« on: Monday 03 February 20 20:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I am chasing a William KEDWARD who was baptised in Lllanwrthwl, Brecon, son of Thomas Kedward of Old Radnor.
By the time William reaches Tredegar in Monmouth he is known as KEDERT. In trying to make sure this is the same person, I have found records in Kington, Hefds where KEDWARD and KEDERT and KEDARD seem to be interchangeable.
Kington is not far from Old Radnor so I am hoping someone familiar with Kington may be able to help me.
here's hoping

Morning

if anyone is going to Taunton could I ask for help with the marriage of
Robert PURNELL and Jane ? EARE please?
The marriage took place at Wells Cathedral on 13 May 1706. No-one can read the surname of the bride from the Parish Register microfiche.. On Family search they say PEARE but I wonder if it is FEAR
As they married by licence I am hoping the licence has survived and give me some help.

Many thanks for reading this

Radnorshire / Eliza Price of Glascwm
« on: Monday 11 November 19 16:59 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

my GGG Grandfather William Lewis married Eliza Price in Glascwm on 22 June 1844. Her father was Walter Price.

In 1851 William, Eliza and William's children Thomas and Dorothea are living in Llangattock.  Then William and children disappear until 1870 when they are found living in Pennsylvania, USA
Eliza is nowhere to be found ~ no death, no children, nothing.

Does anyone have Eliza or the Price family in their tree?

Radnorshire / DAVIES of LLANDEGLEY
« on: Monday 11 November 19 15:13 GMT (UK)  »
hello

I'm searching for an ESTHER ANN DAVIES who was born around 1807 - 1815 depending on which record you look at.
In 1841 she is in Glascwm, is shown as ANN, is married to William LEWIS and aged 25 ~ but I think the enumerator wrote 27 first then wrote 25 across it.

In 1841 Ann or Esther Ann is not of the county of Radnorshire, but in her 1827 marriage she is said to 'be of Llandegley' which is in Radnorshire.
Is there another Llandegley somewhere? Have they moved the county boundaries?
Can anyone with local knowledge please help?

World War One / confusing photos
« on: Tuesday 02 July 19 09:28 BST (UK)  »
Morning'

could anyone help me sort out these photos please? I have a vague idea who they are but there is some kind of time warp. WW1? WW2?  Is the white lanyard worn on the left shoulder a clue?
They look like the same men in each picture, but one had aged, the other has not.
