Family History Beginners Board / George PATIENCE
« on: Tuesday 16 January 24 12:38 GMT (UK)  »
I’m researching GEORGE PATIENCE (1873–1963) who was born on 21 June 1873 at Morangie Road, Tain, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland.

His Birth Registration records that he was illegitimate. His mother was Christina Patience, a Domestic Servant, born abt. 1845 in Dornoch, Sutherland, Scotland. (Her father John was the ferryman at Meikle Ferry.)

In 1861 Christina was with her mother Margaret at Well Street, Tain, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland and in 1873 she gave birth to George at Morangie Road, Tain.

In 1871 her mother Margaret Patience was at Morangie Road, Ross and Cromarty, Scotland (with her son John Patience).

I’ve been unable to find census records for George or Christina Patience for 1871 and 1881. Can you help please?

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Robert's occupation
« on: Thursday 10 February 22 14:20 GMT (UK)  »
Any ideas please to read the occupation of my great grandfather Robert Taylor in 1901 in Southampton? He was previously a tram car driver in Bristol and later a tram car driver in Southampton. The word 'Tram' has been added across all 3 entries.

In 1881 they were at 16 Peter Street, Hulme, Lancs. with children John 11 and Mary 10. In 1891 they were at 6 Beech Square, Hulme with children John and Mary.

John was employed as a Wood Sawyer.

I can’t find either of them in the 1871 census or with their families before they were married. Can you help please?

Family History Beginners Board / Henry and Priscilla Maunder
« on: Friday 10 December 21 14:18 GMT (UK)  »
Henry Maunder (b. Newton Ferrers, Devon - 1819-1898) married Priscilla Tamblin (b. Hubberston, Pembroke, Wales - 1831–1911) on 1 Nov 1848 at Ebinezer Chapel, Margate, Isle of Thanet, Kent.  Henry was possibly stationed at the Coast Guard Station, Ramsgate at the time.

Henry was a mariner from 1842 to 1872, serving as a Boatman - Coastguard from 1847-1854 and 1856-1872 (ref. UK, Naval Officer and Rating Service Records).

They had 14 children between 1850 and 1878, the first 3 in England, 1 in Wales, the other 11 in Northern Ireland.

Henry died on 23 Sept 1898 (14 Percy Street, Shankill, Belfast, Northern Ireland).

In 1901 Priscilla lived at Roe, Clifton, Antrim, Ireland with son Francis Maunder.  In 1911 she lived at 22 Northumberland Street, Wood Vale Ward, Antrim, Ireland with daughter Anne (Gibson) and her family.

She died on 18 May 1911 in Belfast, Antrim.

Henry and Priscilla were obviously together several times between 1848 and 1898 but I’m unable to find any records. Can you help please?

Family History Beginners Board / Searching for Mary Livermore in 1881
« on: Thursday 02 December 21 11:55 GMT (UK)  »
In 1876 Edward Livermore (b. Terling, Essex 1850) married Mary Jane Bagnall (b. 1851 Stoke on Trent) in Egginton, Derbyshire. They had two sons: Edward John (b. 1877 Draycott-In-The-Clay, Staffs) and Charles Ernest (b. 1879 in Leicestershire).

In the 1881 census Edward snr. was employed as a Butler for John Bibby JP, a retired merchant in Calderstone Road, Allerton, Lancs.  His son Edward (aged 3), is listed as a boarder with William Roberts (Brewers Labourer) in Anslow, Burton Upon Trent, Staffs.

In the 1891 census Edward, (Market Gardener) was at Cropthorne, St John, Burstow, Surrey with his sons Edward (13) and Charles (12), his mother Sarah and sister Louisa.  His wife Mary Livermore was at Disney Place, St Peter in East Gate, Lincs. employed as a Servant - Cook, Housekeeper for Emily Melville.

In 1899 Edward snr died in Burton upon Trent, Staffs.

In the 1901 census Mary Livermore was employed as a Servant - Cook at Brocksford Hall, near Doveridge, Derbyshire, home of Charles W J Smith.  Edward jnr is in Anslow, Burton Upon Trent, Staffs, again boarding with Wm Roberts (Farmer), occ. General Farm Labourer.  Charles is a lodger at Upper Outwood Staffs, occ. Brewers Labourers.

I believe Mary died in 1903.

I’m unable to find an 1881 census record for Mary Jane Livermore or her son Charles.  Can you help please?

Family History Beginners Board / Searching for Henry James Turmeau
« on: Saturday 20 November 21 13:24 GMT (UK)  »
Henry James Turmeau (b. 1791Middlesex) married Charlotte Owen on 5 August 1820 in Westminster, Middlesex.

The 1841 census shows them at London Street, St Pancras, Middlesex with 5 children. Henry was a Jewellers Case Maker.

In 1851 a Henry Turmeau is listed in a Directory as a Carver & Gilder at 188 Tottenham Court Road – possibly Henry’s son, also Henry.

A record shows a Henry Turmeau entered Colney Hatch Asylum on 31 Dec 1851 and died there 17 May 1852.  I believe this is Henry’s son Henry William Charles (a Gilder) who married Eliza Pheby in 1847 (father Henry Turmeau, Jewel Case Maker).  Eliza Turmeau, a widow, married George Smith in 1855.

I can’t find any more records for Henry and Charlotte Turmeau. Can you help please?

I'm trying to find a marriage record for George Brown and Annie Francis/Frances (surname unknown). Please can you help?

George Brown (b. 25/3/1876 in Norbiton, London) is listed in the 1891 census at 551 Kings Road, Fulham, London with his parents & 5 siblings.

In 1897 George married Annie Francis (surname not found) who was born in London abt. 1876.

George and Annie had at least 3 children:

George William Brown (1899–1963)
Ellen Rose (or Nellie) Brown (1901–?)
Alfred Charles Brown (1905–?)

The 1901 census records George and Annie living at 7 Sotheron Road, Fulham, London and in 1911 at 121 Bath Road, Knowle, Bristol.
