England / Josephine Dunn (1859 - 1923)

 :)
I have a letter written by Jack (John Joseph) McDonald to his dad from England in 1915 during WWI. Josephine was his mother and came from Birmingham UK.
See attach: a photo of a soldier I believe to be Jack. And, bits of letters. Looking for Dunns; and, any info. His dad was Scottish and called John Joseph too.

Australia / James Squire Farnell (1825- 1888)
« on: Thursday 09 April 15 07:37 BST (UK)  »
 :)
My ancestor, James Frederick Stanley (1811-1862) was firm mates with Farnell. Farnell was executor of his Will. Indeed, Farnell was supportive of James' family. James owned a farm that covered Top Ryde NSW. James was very politically minded.
Would love contact with the Farnell family. Of course I'm interested in any photos/ info concerning their friendship.

Kildare / Anne Dempsey (1825-1895)
« on: Thursday 15 May 14 05:32 BST (UK)  »
:) Rathangan Kildare Ireland is associated with Anne who died in Australia. Her mother came out to Australia in 1864: Charlotte Dempsey (1805 - 1874). She married Bernard Dempsey in 1823 and had 4 males and 7 females. One sister of Anne's, Mary came out here too, marrying a John Clare.
Both Anne's only 2 daughters became RC nuns. On the trip out here Anne used the name Watkins rather than Dempsey as she was alone and travelled with a male friend of that name for protection.

Would love some documented evidence of a connection to Ireland. One of her grand daughters was the first woman in NSW Parliament: indeed, her portrait painting hangs in the foyer still. She did a great deal for women.

Australia / John McDonald(1859-1931)
« on: Monday 18 November 13 05:20 GMT (UK)  »
 :)
John McDonald (1859-1931) was born at Collingwood Victoria and
died in Sydney area - I have visited his grave site where he was buried (after his wife, Josephine Dunn(e), was buried there) at Rookwood. Nice words about Josephine by John but nothing about John.

I have been told recently that his dad's name was also John, (Scottish), married twice: 1) Margaret Dwyer; then 2) Antoinette(?) Johnson who was his mother.

Some help please !

Australia / George Vesey Allen died 1913
« on: Tuesday 29 October 13 23:34 GMT (UK)  »
George is associated with my family by his first marriage to Mary Francis Preston. He gave evidence at the Royal Commission re Ned Kelly. I have found several refs to him on Trove re twins; daughter; death; burial. But, his journalistic endeavours with the Daily Telegraph - though I have found his connections to travelling shows - are of interest to me. I believe he was at the seige of Glenrowan. Would love photos but can't find any. I believe he lived in Victoria, Australia, mainly.
with thanks,

I bought the marriage certificate of Jonas Pudan and Sarah Newby; Ipswich, Suffolk, UK; July 10 1840.
John Pudan, butcher, is Jonas' dad. I tried today to find census etc to find Jonas' mum, siblings but no luck.
Can anyone help me ? I have been told there is a Dutch connection - back in the Pudan family so I'm trying to trace back...

« on: Monday 11 February 13 05:55 GMT (UK)  »
 ???
In 1953 and also in 1956 these two people seemed to live together at
7 Betstyle Rd Southgate.
In 1969 Miss May Peck lived at 23 Malines St Peacehaven, East Sussex alone.

I am very interested in their siblings; their parents and their parents siblings.
Info, photos all good.
