World War One / S S Manchester
« on: Sunday 05 October 14 16:15 BST (UK)  »
Hi My Grandfather, James Maclean, was in the RAMC., apparently according to family members, although I have never found an Army record or a Pension Record for him. I was told also that he was on S.S. Manchester in WW1 when it went down, but there are a few S.S. Manchester Liners on various websites, and I am not sure which one it might be.

I was told also that he was found floating in the water, and could not remember his name.

He also used another name of "Holden"., for whatever reasons I don't know.

Is there anywhere that might hold the lists of crew members on these ships, as all I have is word of mouth he was in the RAMC., during WW1, and in receipt of a pension.

Thanks in advance for any help.

London and Middlesex / London Pub History

Does anyone know the name of a pub that was the other side of Wardley Street before the houses were pulled down.

It is not the Grosvenor Arms at the top of Garratt Lane, but if you walked down Wardley Street there would have been an alley way to the left that led into Lydden Road and the pub was straight in front of that.

My Dad who lived in Wardley Street used to go there sometimes with his Grandfather James Long, and remembers there being sawdust on the floor and a spitoon. This would have been in the 1930's/1940's upwards.

Unfortunately he can't remember  the name of the pub.

Anyone that  knows anything please contact me.

Thanks

London & Middlesex Lookup Requests / Wrights'
« on: Sunday 24 April 11 22:15 BST (UK)  »
Looking for relatives of a Rose Wright who married a James Long.

Rose was born in roughly 1882 and her Father was William Wright according to her marriage certificate.

I cannot find her on a Census with her parents, as I have no idea what her Mother's christian name was.

She married  James Long, who lived at 73 Wardley Street Wandsworth.

She lived in Wandsworth or another area of London close to this.

As there seems to be so many Wrights' on Census's I have looked at I am totally confused.

Can anyone help me .

Thanks - Faith

Does anyone have a photo of Wardley Street Wandsworth. My Dad George Boyd lived there with my Nan, Edith Boyd nee Wright/Long, Grandad, George Boyd, my Gt.Grandoparent's James Long & Rose Long nee Wright.

Rose was James Long's 2nd Wife - their children were - Austin, Charles, Rhoda and Violet. James died in 1949, in Wandsworth, Rose in 1963 also in Wandsworth.

They all lived at 73 Wardley Street. James Long was a Greengrocer and had a horse and cart.

Any help will be greatfully appreciated.
