Wexford / Links between Furlongs and Doyles, Taghmon
« on: Thursday 15 October 20 03:31 BST (UK)  »
Seeking information about Doyles (Denis, Peter, Catherine, Margaret) from Rathanna, Carlow who came to Taghmon parish in early nineteenth century. Subsequently married into Furlongs: Peter m. Margaret Furlong about 1840; John Furlong m. Margaret (or Catherine) Doyle about 1830. :)

Roscommon / Black-eyed McCormacks
« on: Wednesday 20 April 16 11:36 BST (UK)  »
This phrase 'black-eyed McCormacks' has come down through our family. And indeed there are some 'black-eyed' contemporary family members. Does this term resonate with anyone else from Roscommon McCormacks roots?

Monaghan / Fr Duffy
« on: Tuesday 30 June 15 10:03 BST (UK)  »
Fr Duffy married my great grand parents in Corlygorm, Monaghan in December 1861 and gave them a letter of introduction to his nephew, Gavan Duffy (later Sir). The letter was to give them a help along in Australia where the nephew was a member of parliament. Does anyone have more information about this Duffy family, in particular Fr Duffy? Just trying to get more of a sense of the times and close associates of the family.  :)With thanks

Seeking information re Julia McCormack who married Martin Darcy in early 1800s. My great grandfather was their son Francis. He migrated to Australia with his wife Honora (also McCormack) in 1850s or 1860s. Any leads gratefully received!

Wexford / Furlong & Doyles of Dungeer
« on: Monday 09 May 11 09:38 BST (UK)  »
Recently 'found' the birth place of my great grandfather, Peter Furlong (born 1835): Dungeer, Taghmon parish. Now wondering if there are any living relatives in Wexford or elsewhere. Parents were John and Margaret (aka Catherine) Doyle. Believe there was a brother John born 1832 and William born 1839. also 2 sisters: Mary 1848 and Elizabeth 1846. Anybody out there? :) Shrimpton

Wexford / Music shop Wexford town 1860s
« on: Wednesday 20 April 11 03:32 BST (UK)  »
A Martin Furlong had a music shop in Main St South (I think) in 1860s. Meanwhile, at 84 Bourke St, Melbourne, Australia a William Ronauld Furlong also had a music shop. Does any one know if these two are related and how? Any info of interest.

Wexford / Cholera out-break in Taghmon 1840s
« on: Saturday 09 April 11 11:36 BST (UK)  »
My Furlong relatives are from Taghmon parish so I'm interested in any detailed information about the impact of the cholera out-break in the late 1840s. Was the out-break limited to the town or more widespread? Would farmers in the area go to the Taghmon village weekly for markets or less often?
Thanks
