Hello Beanie
Just by chance I came across this posting. I'm wondering if you would be willing and able to check for gravestones for some members of my Currie clan. There is no rush. There are 8 plots that I am interested in.  That means a lot of walking and searching as they are in all different parts of Southern Cemetery.I don't know whether there are gravestones but I will send you the plot information and names if you are willing to do to take a few photos for me.
Kind regards, Nan

Renfrewshire / Is anyone researching the Langs of Renfrewshire?
« on: Wednesday 19 August 15 16:40 BST (UK)  »
I'd be interested in sharing information with anyone working on this family. My 2xgreat grandfather James Lang was born in 1815 in Houston and Killelan(West Glen I believe) His parents were Gabriel Lang (b. c1784 and likely died bef 1851 census) and Elizabeth Patereson (b. c1783 and died 4 Jul 1854 Abbey Renfrewshire) James married Margaret Jack (b. c1817 and died 3 Jan 1900 at 15 Kempock, Gourock. They married 5 June 1841 in Kilbarchan, Renfrewshire. They had 10 children. My great grandmother Georgina Jane Lang (1842-1918) was their eldest daughter. Her siblings were:James  b 1844, Elizabeth Paterson b 1846, George b 1849, Gabriel b 1851, Margaret Stewart b 1853, John Boyd b 1855, Janet b 1858, Wm b 1861 and Malcolm b 1862.
Looking forward to making some connections,
regards, Nan

When I started my family tree on ancestry, I started with my husband and me and traced our lines into the past. I now realize that I should have done the trees separately because both are now quite large. Is there any SIMPLE way to make each family an individual tree? I am technologically challenged so I repeat the request for a simple step by step explanation. I sure hope it is possible to separate the trees but realize I may have a big job ahead of me. Thank you in advance for any advice.

Ayrshire / James Boswell, 9th laird of Auchinleck, Ayrshire
« on: Tuesday 27 January 15 04:03 GMT (UK)  »
I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this question. Please feel free to move it to wherever it will perhaps find an answer.
Boswell is best noted for his writings on Samuel Johnson but he also wrote descriptions of his travels etc. I read somewhere that he also wrote in a diary about his property in Ayrshire and this is what I am very interested in reading. Apparently he mentioned a fellow named "Currie" (no forename). This is a relative of mine. I would like to read what Boswell has to say about his work on the estate.
Thank you in advance.

US Lookup Requests / What happened to Bessie C. Allan born 1900 in San Francisco?
« on: Wednesday 12 November 14 15:07 GMT (UK)  »
Bessie C Allan was the daughter of James Allan and Jean Harvie. I have been able to trace her siblings  James, John, Douglas and Grace from birth until death but lose track of Bessie after 1920. At the time of the 1920 census she is still at home on Peorne Ave, San Francisco with her parents. I also found her in 1900 and 1910 - both times in San Francisco
Any help much appreciated, Nan

Harriet Hughes daughter of Maria and William Hughes was baptized 23 Feb 1817 in Stamford St George. On 22 Nov 1849 she married a Robert Millard, a widowed cabinetmaker, in St George in the East, Tower Hamlets although they had had a son George  on 13 April 1846. She used the Millard name when she was a witness for brother James' marriage 11 Jul 1849 at St. John's parish Clerkenwell. In 1855 they are at Upper St. John St., Hoxton when George and  sister Harriet were baptized. Next sighting is in 1871 census when they are on Radnor St., St. Luke, Middlesex. Robert born c1799 in Gloucestershire is now a porter. I can't find either one after 1871. Likely the Millard name has been mistranscribed. Can anyone find these two?
thank you, Nan

The Common Room / Free copies of PRs from FamilySearch
« on: Tuesday 06 May 14 20:44 BST (UK)  »
I need some advice on using this service. I have applied for 2 batches of records - 9 in total. I had no issues with the first batch. I followed the same procedure the second time(at least I thought I did) but was told that I had sent the index film number but needed the correct film number. An example: I requested a copy of the baptismal record for William Currie, son of Hugh Currie and Georgina Lang. The record found at familysearch.org stated that he was born on 26 November 1871 in Clyde, Glasgow. The film number given on that record was 6035516. The other information was C 11926-1.
This is a wonderful service which I hope they will continue to offer. I think we have to make it as easy as possible for them to fulfill our requests. Would somebody please clarify where I went wrong.
Thank you, Nan
