Warwickshire / Thomas FARR baptism query, Foleshill
« on: Monday 14 October 13 11:19 BST (UK)  »
I have a query regarding a possible baptism for my 4 x great grandfather, Thomas Farr/Fare/Fayer. I know from later census data and other sources relating to the time when he was living in Cornwall after leaving the Royal Marines, that he was born c.1790 in Coventry and that his father was a miner called Thomas Farr.
The only possible baptism I have been able to find for him is in Foleshill (which I understand is near to Coventry?). However, the parish register shows the baptism of Thomas Farr, son to Thomas O'Hayre and Hannah O'Hayre. Am I looking at a middle name here (none of the other baptism entries on the page show middle names) or could this be the Thomas Farr I'm looking for?  If so, why would he have a different name from his parents?  Any help much appreciated

World War One / War diary 1917 query
« on: Wednesday 19 September 12 02:06 BST (UK)  »
Would someone be able to tell me if/where it is possible to view a war diary for the King's Liverpool Regiment please?  The reference I have is 1/9 KLR War Diary 24/9/1917 which evidently mentions the Military Medal awarded to my great uncle, Stephen McDonald and my source is the CWGC entry for Stephen.

Many thanks

Kildare / Flaherty & Lawler in Ballybought, Ballymore Eustace
« on: Monday 05 September 11 13:44 BST (UK)  »
I've recently discovered that my FLAHERTY/LAWLER ancestors were from the Townland of  Ballybought, Ballymore Eustace and would very much like to know if there are any resources I can access that might help me  to find out more about these families.

My 4 x great grandfather, William FLAHERTY was born in Ballybought in 1786 to William FLAHERTY and Catherine LAWLER. They were a Roman Catholic family and living in Ballbought Lane.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

** Not sure whether this post should have been in Co. Wicklow or Co. Kildare, as I know that Ballymore Eustace was originally part of Wicklow ??

Hi

I've just received a copy of the death certificate for my 4 x great grandmother Margaret MATHER who died on 19 February 1876 at 35 Sandbach Street, Monks Coppenhall, Crewe, aged 89 years.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where she might have been buried please?

Many thanks

The Common Room / Cornish Will - can you read please?
« on: Tuesday 23 September 08 12:30 BST (UK)  »
Hi
A couple of weeks ago I posted the first page of the Will of Francis GODOLPHIN of St. Columb Major and rootschatters were brilliant at reading it for me.  :)
However, I had misplaced the second and third pages.  I have now found them and would be really grateful if someone could decipher them for me please.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / My favourite photo
« on: Sunday 14 September 08 12:49 BST (UK)  »
Whilst looking through the family albums to find some pics for my sister I realised how few photos there actually were of our parents with my sister and I taken in 1952.

I found this one which I'd really like to frame and hope that some of you really talented rootschatters might improve it for me  :)

The Common Room / Can anyone read this section of a Will from the 1690's please?
« on: Friday 12 September 08 11:48 BST (UK)  »
I'd be really grateful if anyone is able to read this section of the will of Francis Godolphin from circa 1690 please?

I've been poring over it with magnifying glass and an enlargement of the text but still can't make head nor tail of it!
