Ross & Cromarty / Catherine Murray (Graham) - Stornoway
« on: Sunday 13 June 21 13:58 BST (UK)  »
I have hit a bit of a hurdle and was wondering if anyone was able to help?

I have the marriage Cer't for Angus Murray and Kate (Catherine) Graham 19 Aug 1897 in Fraserburg. Both were from Back Stornoway. His parents are listed as Donald Murray and Mary Murray (Martin). Her father is listed as Donald Graham and her mother is a name I've never seen before which looks to be Germalia Graham (Morrison). Her name got me interested in finding out more about her.

I've combed Scottish people site for any records but have come up with nothing. I've tried changing her first name to Gormelia, which appears to be more likely. I have found a few but none linking to a Donald Graham. I also found 3 Catherine Grahams' born at the right time (1869-71) in Stornoway, 2 have a father called Donald but no Gormelia or even a Morrison surname.

Can anyone help me over this hurdle? Thank you in advance.

Angus (Forfarshire) / 1841 Census look up
« on: Wednesday 08 July 20 19:49 BST (UK)  »
I was wondering if anyone would mind having a look for the 1841 Census report for me?

I'm looking for George Tasker born abt. 1762 Dundee and was still living until 1842, he was married to Isabel Graham(e) born abt.1769 I don't know when she died.
They had a son also called George Tasker born abt. 1792 Dundee, again don't know when he died. He was married to Elizabeth Lamb in 1822 Dundee and had at least one son. James Smith Tasker born abt. 1825.

Thank you in advance.

I know this is a long shot... but...

I was wondering if there was anyone in Brantford, Ontario whom wouldn't mind looking up 8 Newspaper notices at the library. I stay in Scotland so it's not possible for me.

I have all the dates, pages and info on where to find them so it should be an easy job.

Canada / Joseph Rouleau's family
« on: Tuesday 08 January 19 17:22 GMT (UK)  »
I wonder if anyone can help me... I have been having a great deal of trouble with this branch of my tree.

My great grandmother was Alice Elvira Rouleau b. 25 May 1898 in Neepawa, Manitoba. She was the 9th child of Francis Xavier Rouleau 9 Aug 1848 Quebec and Hannah Eliza Stephenson 30 Aug 1861 Guelph, Ontario. They were married 9 Aug 1880 in Brantford, Ontario.

I have found out a great deal about Hannah's family but Francis is proving very hard. The family records say that Francis was the second child (first son) of Joseph Rouleau (born between 1790/1800 L'Isle Verte, Quebec.) and his second wife Marie Taschereau (or Tachereau). However, I can't find any record of their marriage.

It also appears that his first wife (Euphrosine Patonie 1806 - 1874) was still alive during the years that he was 'married' and having children with Marie.

The Rouleau's were a well known Catholic French- Canadian family as were the Taschereau, so it seems unlikely that this was an affair.  Normally while doing family research I would look at this and say it was the wrong 'Joseph', but I have records linking Francis with 2 of his half-brothers. Charles Borromee 1840 and Edouard Hector 1843.

I was sent old family documents that confirmed and contradicted my findings and records. The family document say that Francis's father was called Michal or Joesph Rouleau with all the other information the same. I found no record of a Michal Rouleau but did find a family tree listing Michal as Francis's father.

The other possibility is that Francis himself was not who he said he was. Can anyone help me untangle this web?

Scotland / Help....can't find James Currie's mother!
« on: Thursday 06 February 14 14:08 GMT (UK)  »
I am helping a friend with her family history and have run into a bit of a query.... I have a marriage record for  James Currie (a mason/ journeyman) 18 & Margaret Sharkey 18 of Glasgow dated 12 April 1878.

Her parents were listed as John & Margaret (m.s. Taylor) which I have confirmed is correct.

His parents were listed as John and Margaret (m.s. Marr or Mars) I am having a really hard time finding any records, what- so- ever for his parents....ever document I've found has a different mother listed.

I can't find a record of a death for a Margaret Currie m.s. Marr or Mars, it doesn't say deceased next to any of the parents....so I can only assume that she was alive to give her maiden surname.

I do know that James's dad was John Currie and was a mason from the Glasgow area...however his mother is just a mystery. I know that I have the right marriage record, I just can't figure out why there is no record of the mother  being named Margaret Marr or Mars.

Any help would be great.... even if it's just a thought. K

Europe / Finland: Hilja Kutja b. 1891 to Canada by 1912
« on: Wednesday 06 November 13 14:00 GMT (UK)  »
I have been trying to find information about my great grandmother Hilja Kutja for years but have not been able to find anything more than her Death Record and my grandfather's birth record with her name on it.

As far as I know she was born in Finland (don't know where) about 1891. She immigrated to Canada before 1912, but I can't find any record of when or where she entered. The first record I have is my grandfather's BC ( Jalo Johan Gate Anderson born 1 May 1913). It says that she and my great grandfather Manasse Anderson (1887 Finland - 1930 Fort William, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada) were married 5 Oct 1912 in Port Arthur, Thunder Bay.... however I have yet to find a MC to confirm what they told the register. I know that she got T.B. while pregnant with a baby girl who I think was stillborn or died shortly after birth (again I can't find record, but I've seen the grave), she herself than died 7 Dec 1917 Port Arthur, Thunder Bay aged 26 not long after the baby from what I'm told. On Her record of Death it has her listed as Hilja Anderson, but again I don't know if her and Manasse were ever really married. He has himself listed as a widower on military recruitment papers that are dated twice (once while Hilja was sick in hospital on 9 Nov 1917 and again in 1918. However I found a MC for Manasse and his second wife 10 May 1918, on which he is listed as a Bachelor not a widower....

I would really like to find out where she came from and anything about her family. Any help would be amazing and Thank you for reading my long winded story!! X
