« on: Thursday 22 February 24 07:46 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find information about William Irving, who was a lance corporal who died in WW1 on 18th July 1916. He was 41. I have tried Scotlands People from 1870 onwards, but there are no records of his birth. I would also like to see his attestation papers for when he joined up. Any help greatly appreciated.

George Blythe was born illegitimate to Mary Scott of Hollows Canonbie in 1853. He was brought up by his grandfather George Scott, the blacksmith at hollows. He appears on 1861 census as George Berthe and in 1871 as George Scott. I have been unable to find out anything else. If anyone can provide any further information I would be very grateful.

Dumfriesshire / Margaret Graham
« on: Tuesday 12 November 19 10:27 GMT (UK)  »
My Gt.Gt.Gt. Grandfather was George Scott, a blacksmith who lived in Hollows, Canonbie. He had several grandchildren born out of wedlock and who lived with him and his wife. One was Mary Ann Scott. After many years of searching, I have discovered that her mother was Margaret Graham, and her father was reported to be Robert Scott, George's son, also a blacksmith at Hollows. Mary Ann married William Johnston(e) on 20th August 1880. She died on 22nd January 1881 a few days after giving birth to a son, Andrew. This information has been obtained from Scotlands People. However I have been unable to find anything concerning her mother Margaret Graham. She had been a farm servant before Mary Ann's birth. If anyone can help discover anything about her, I would be most grateful.

My Gt Gt Grandfather, Andrew Skilling was born 11 Sep 1822 in Cummertrees. He died 25 Jul 1889 at Hannah Gate, Cummertrees. Does anyone know if Hannah Gate was a cottage, and if so does it still exist. Andrew was a hedger all his working life. He was interred in Cummertrees cemetery 29 Jul 1889. If anyone visits Cummertrees cemetery, could you, please, look to see if there is a stone on his grave. Any help you can give will be very much appreciated. Thank you

Dumfriesshire / Agnes (Nan) Skilling
« on: Saturday 13 May 17 07:53 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find out as much as I can about Agnes (Nan)Skilling. She was born 3 Jun 1884 in Cummertrees, Dumfriesshire. She married Matthew Martin Glendinning 5th Dec 1919 in Dumfriesshire. Matthew's occupation was given as gamekeeper. The only other thing I have discovered is that a Matthew Martin Glendinning was a gamekeeper in Berwickshire in 1930. This information was obtained from valuation rolls on Scotland's People. I am assuming it is the same Matthew Glendinning. However, I have been unable to find any death details for either Agnes or Matthew. Any help anyone can give will be very much appreciated.
