Wales / History of National Eisteddfod

Hi, I have recently been passed a winners 'black chair' awarded to my great grandfather at a Welsh National Eisteddfod. It has no markings - does anyone know of anyway to find out what year he won this and for what? We presume singing but we are not sure. Thx in advance for any guidance!

Denbighshire / parish records - rhosymedre and acrefair

Hi,
I am still on the hunt for the birth of my gt gt grandfather William Kerfoot. He was born illegitimate and from census returns and death certificate he was born somewhere between 1854 and 1858.
The information I have is as follows:
He was born illegitimate to Robert Kerfoot and unknown mother (probably / possibly an Alice Jones who later became Roberts wife) this is evidenced through his grandfathers will.
1861 census - no information - possibly missing or should I be looking for someone with a different surname???
1871 census recorded as Kerfoot - living with grandparents on family farm in St Asaph - born in Llangollen recorded age as 13 therefore born approx 1858.
1879 - marriage in Blaenau Ffestiniog aged 22 - this would mean he was born 1857
1881 census recorded as Kerfoot - living with wife aged 24 born in Denbighshire - this would put him born in 1857.
1891 census - recorded as Kerfoot - living with wife aged 37 born in Denbigh - this would put him born in 1854.
1901 census - recorded as Kerfoot - living with wife aged 45 born in Acrefair - this would put him born in 1856.
1911 census - recorded as Kerfoot - living with wife aged 54 born in Rhosymedre - this would put him born in 1857.
Death certificate has him aged 57 in 1912 therefore born in 1855.

I cannot find a birth of a William KERFOOT in that year range anywhere in North Wales. There is one William Kerfoot born in 1853 St Asaph and I have the birth certificate and it is not him.

I need to access parish records - as I am no where near the area this is not possible in records offices. Hopefully by going through these I can find him - perhaps marked as illegitimate in the records with his mother.
I need to know a few things and am hoping someone can help me...
If someone was born in Llangollen / Acrefair / Rhosymedre where would they have registered the birth - Oswestry or Wrexham?
Are any records from this area only so that I can view page by page (painstaking task but no alternative left I think!

Can I order these records online from a welsh family history society and if so which FHS would cover all these areas or do they come under different ones?

Any advice on other ways I could proceed would be really helpful.

Merionethshire / Blaenau Ffestiniog - Temperance Hotel

Hi,
I have taken over my mum's research and I am trying to make some sense out of some of her (extensive) notes on the family. She has passed away so I am not in a position to ask her where she got bits of information from... I am familiar with research having a ONS on my father's surname. However she has a death certificate of a great aunt of mine a Jane Ann Owens who married a Robert Hughes in 1896. She had I think 16 children, 13 of which survived into adulthood all born in BF. She died in 1936. In the notes for her it states that she 'kept' the Railway Cafeteria and her death cert states that she died in the Griffin Temperance Hotel - her son Evan also died there a year after her and mum also has a note that another son Tommy ran the Bridge Street cafe.
Does anyone know if I can verify any of the details in any way at all. The were not a rich family - Jane's father was killed in an explosion in a mine and my gt gt grandfather William Kerfoot bought her up in BF after marrying her mother.
If anyone can tell me anything about the above places and whether I can find any details on them I would be most grateful. rgds Soozieg

Hi,
can anyone tell me if the records for welsh calvanistic chapels are available anywhere - particularly online? I have a large number or relatives who went to Chapel rather than Church in Wales and it would be helpful to have some information from these records. thankyou.

Hi, If at all possible could someone translate this for me please. It is the obituary for my gt gt gt grandfather. My limited welsh thinks that it says something along the lines of he was very sad at his neice dying and that he was a good member of the church and worked his whole life as a quarryman, but its a little confusing at times for my limited welsh... any help would be great - thankyou to anyone willing to take the time to help me.

Armed Forces / MIlitary records

I have discovered some service records that would be greatly beneficial in my research, however on ancestry alot of the documents are 'in the dark' - does this mean they are damaged or badly scanned in?
Can anyone tell me if I can order the 44 pages as a record to get a copy and if it will be of better quality and therefore readable thus helping me put the story together a little better?

Merionethshire / Tabernacle Chapel - Blaenau Ffestiniog

Hi,
My gt gt grandparents married in Tabernacle Chapel in 1907 - I have their marriage certificate. However I cannot find any other records for them or their families. Despite searching on the internet I am struggling to find any 'parish' records for this chapel. I assume that because it was methodist they are less likely to be online but does anyone know if there are records for the chapel and if so where would they be held?

Family History Programs, Tree Organisation, Presentation / Publishing my research

Hi,
My mum has spent many years researching her family tree, unfortunately she is now too sick to do anything with all the information she has gained over time.
I would like to take all the boxes of information she has and put it into some kind of book for her, I know how I want to lay it out, and I have collated and sorted everything and tied up a fefw loose ends she had - I havent started the write up yet and before i do i want to have an idea of the direction I am heading with it and I am not sure of the best way to get it actually put into a book format - someone suggested using a photo book from a website such as vista print or photobox, someone else suggested using powerpoint to write it up - but I am not sure this is the best way. I want it hard back so that it lasts for some time and is durable. I will want to include photos but there wont be hundreds of them - any suggestions or ideas in how or where i could get this done? thanks in advance Soozieg

Lancashire / Molineux Family - Hawkley Hall / Pemberton

me again... does anyone know if any records exist for this family and their leased land in Pemberton area from 1730's or there abouts? And if so where I can look at them (web based) or where they are held so that I can ask someone to look for me?

I am very new to Lancashire area and researching in this area so any advice / help would be great - thank you.
