The Common Room / King George III Rumour
« on: Tuesday 22 August 23 16:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I am researching my late husband's family tree for my children and there has been a story passed down that they are related to King George III via his daughter Princess Elizabeth.  Apparently she had an illegitimate daughter called Eliza (b. 1814) who was fostered by a family called Turner.

I have gone back to Eliza Turner (b. 1814) who married John Craigdallie of Perth.  I found her in the 1851 census (she is now Eliza Mark - b. 1814 in Deptford, Kent) so she exists and everything matches that we have been told but obviously how do we find out if she was fostered or if she was in fact royal?

Any help or guidance would be appreciated.  My son has got his DNA on Ancestry if that helps do you think?

Thank you in advance,

Lisa Lade

Suffolk / Trimley St Mary map
« on: Monday 04 May 15 14:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I'm just wondering if anybody has a copy of an old map of Trimley St Mary (preferably around 1900) as I am visiting the area on Thursday to do some research and need to find a place called Cabbage Square that doesn't exist anymore.

If anyone could help that would be brilliant,

Thank you all in advance,

Lisa

London and Middlesex / I need help with a double baptism!
« on: Friday 04 October 13 14:33 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I'm just wondering if any of you experts on here can help me with this condundrum:

I have found an ancestor - Emmeline Sophia Carter (born approx 1887) but have two baptisms for her in two different places.  The first is in Shadwell St Paul, Tower Hamlets on Jan 9 1888 and the next at Poplar All Hallows, Tower Hamlets on 10 Feb 1888 (although on this record she is named as Emily Sophia Carter).  She sadly died in 1888 as well.

Part of me was thinking that maybe it was 2 different children but the parents names are the same, living at the same address on both baptisms and father's occupation is the same so i'm 99.9% sure it is the same child.

Can anyone shed any light on why this has happened?  Long shot I know!

Thanking you in advance,

Lisa :)

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / Harvey Family - South Stoke / Bottesford
« on: Monday 12 November 12 19:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hi all,

I am just wondering if anybody has any information on the Harvey family of South Stoke and Bottesford.  Ideally I just want to find out the occupation and location of the following people:

Henry Harvey (b. 1671 Belton, Lincs, d. 1756 Bottesford, Lincs.)
Son of Henry - Samuel Harvey (b. 1725, Bottesford)
Son of Samuel - William Harvey (b. 1756, Bottesford, d. 1780 South Stoke, Lincs).

I would be grateful if anyone could give me any piece of info to help me on my way.  I am doing a little bit of ancestry for a friend on these people.

Thank you,

Lisa

Dorset Lookup Requests / Bowden Family 1871
« on: Wednesday 04 July 12 11:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I am trying to find Eliza Bowden (b. 1812), Tom Bowden (b. 1851) and Bessy Bowden (b. 1853) in the 1871 census.  They were all born in Wimborne, Dorset.  Eliza's husband was Henry Bowden but he died in 1856.  I can't find a death record anywhere for her either.

I have got them in 1861 still living in Wimborne.  I have also got Tom and Bessy in 1881 - Tom is in the Navy and Bessy is a "visitor" at a family in Lancashire.  If I could find them in 1871 it might give me a clue as to the death place of Eliza etc.

If anybody could help that would be fantastic.

Thank you,

Lisa

Scotland / Robert Grieve and Jane Stalker
« on: Tuesday 05 June 12 18:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I have just discovered that my 4 x Gt Grandfather was Robert Grieve, a Jeweller who was born in Scotland according to the 1841 census.  I always knew there was a Scottish connection and this is the first time I have discovered it!  Where do I go from here as I haven't a clue where he came from in Scotland.

Can anyone help, maybe somebody has records of either Robert or Jane and can give me a clue as to where they were born?

Kind regards,
Lisa

Dorset Lookup Requests / Henry Dibben/Bowden - Wimborne Birth
« on: Saturday 28 April 12 18:18 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

If anybody can look up Henry Dibben / Bowden for me I would be grateful.  I think he was born around 1836/38 and his mother was Eliza Dibben.  Always thought his father was Henry Bowden but apparently Eliza had Henry two years before they married.  Consequently, he may have been born out of wedlock and even born to another man.

If anybody could help I would be forever grateful,

Regards,
Lisa

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Occupation that I can't read in census
« on: Saturday 25 February 12 10:24 GMT (UK)  »
Good morning all,

Could somebody please have a look at the below and on the marriage record for Henry Robert Walker and Charlotte Grieve, the father's of Henry Walker (another Henry Walker!) looks like his occupation is Glass Finisher or something?  Could somebody confirm this for me?

Thank you :)
Lisa
