Durham / Place name problem
« on: Saturday 04 June 16 14:23 BST (UK)  »
I have a friend working on family history.  I myself have not seen the entries but we are looking for a place name.

1881 census - Air Bushes, Co Durham
1891 census - Herbushes, Co Durham
1901 census - Hair Bushes, Co Durham
 1911 census - dead
Any idea where this might be??

IF no one has any ideas I will see if I can get the census information

Monmouthshire / Decifering help
« on: Monday 18 May 15 23:41 BST (UK)  »
I have attached the top of a marriage certificate.  I can hardly read it but my best guess for the parish is Llanfihangel Pontymoile, Monmouthshire.  Any ideas?  These folks moved to Pennsylvania USA shortly after marriage.  Their first child was named Trifena/Triphena.  Was that a popular Welsh name in the 1880's?

Thanks for any help.

Is it just me?  For about a week I have not been able to search on the Hugh Wallis IGI site.  I get the broken link page.

Durham / Hugh Wallis site
« on: Sunday 31 July 11 04:21 BST (UK)  »
I have not been able to get into the IGI from the Hugh Wallis site.  I can get in but when I put a surname in the box to search then I get an error type message.  Is anyone else having this problem or is it just me?

Durham / Felling mining disaster of 1812
« on: Monday 27 June 11 23:25 BST (UK)  »
I have been contacted about this event happening for the 200th anniversary 25 Mar 2012 of the Felling mine incident.  They are looking for descendants.  Making a new miners banner, parade and memorial service at Durham Cathedral that I can see so far.  If you are interested and I give the coordinators name in a personal message.

Berkshire / Is this in Berkshire?
« on: Monday 30 August 10 18:38 BST (UK)  »
I have an obituary from a US Newspaper for a John W. Remington son of John and Ellen.  The information states that he was born 17 Mar 1869 in Barnsley, Berkshire, England.  Is there a Barnsley in Berkshire?  I only know of one in Yorkshire.

I know obituary information is only as good as what the person reporting knows.  I don't see his birth registered in the GRO anywhere but I don't think it was mandatory at the time.

Berkshire geography is foreign to me. If anyone could help I would be grateful.

Durham / Burial John Coleman
« on: Saturday 20 February 10 19:14 GMT (UK)  »
I need an opinion or knowledge of the area.  On the Bishop's Transcripts for Easington #101 of 554 is a burial of John Coleman.  Where was he from? I read as Renton, or Benton late of Haswell Moor.  Is it an 'R' or a 'B'?  Farther down the page on the last entry the person was from Raisbeck House and it looks like the same letter.

Is there a Benton in Co. Durham?  Is there a Renton or is that another spelling for Rainton?

Opinions?

Durham / Need an opinion

I found a death and burial of one of my family.  This is how it reads, it is from the Penshaw burials.

William Barres, Shiney Row, son of Cuthbert Barres, pitman, by his wife Ann Elsdon, native of North Shields, died 10 Oct 1812, buried 13 Oct 1812, age 15.

I know that William was baptised in Washington and place of birth was N Winning.  So do you think I should be looking for his father and/or mother in North Shields?  This family moved back and forth between Penshaw and Washington.
