Can anyone help?  I am trying to find out about the suicide of a man in 1943, are the inquests recorded anywhere and can you view them?   Also does anyone know of a newspaper that would record things occuring in their neighbourhood, the district would be Poplar. London

Mayo / St.Columba industrial school mayo
« on: Thursday 04 November 21 17:51 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone tell me if there is anyway I can check on two sisters that were sent to St.Columba’s industrial school,  Westport in 1879 they were only 5 and 3 at the time mother was dead and their father should have been around, the girls were sent there because they were caught begging in Westport.  The younger daughter Mary Anne Browne died aged 6 presumably still in St. Columba’s.   Her sister was Honor Browne.  Their father remarried and moved to England in and around 1891.
Thanks in advance, Joan D’Arcy

Northumberland / Grey family from Seaton Sluice
« on: Tuesday 14 September 21 11:30 BST (UK)  »
Hello it is along time since I last posted a request on Rootschat but I am now back on my family tree and would like some help if possible.

I have Robert Grey born in 1822 in Seaton Sluice, his father was a James and he was a mariner, I have found Rober's christening at the church of St. Alban's Earsdon on 11th January 1823 , his mother was a Mary Ann Forster.  This couple were married on 8th September 1818 but try as I might I cannot find out any further information on this couple.

I had hoped to visit Northumberland during this past year but have had to postpone a visit until next year but would like if possible to try and find out what I can on this couple before then.  It does not help when you have two strands of the tree both called Grey/Gray that marry into one another!
So if anyone out there can telll me where I could look for James and Mary Ann before Robert's birth I would be very grateful.

Armed Forces / WW1 graves
« on: Monday 01 April 19 22:27 BST (UK)  »
I have discovered that an ancestor of mine was killed in WW1 in Flanders and is buried there.  He was a John J. Davies born 12th June 1896 and died 1917.  I am curious that the headstone on his grave cites that there are two people buried there, John and a J. Dallas who died 19th June, J. Dallas was in the Royal Artillery and JOhn in the Welsh Regiment and both their regiment badges are carved into the headstone was it a common practice for graves tol be shared?  have not come across this before.

Thank you for any help  Joan D'Arcy

Pembrokeshire / church records
« on: Tuesday 30 October 18 10:07 GMT (UK)  »
Would the name of the groom's father be on the Bishops Transcripts of the Parish of New Moat from 1810 to 1811? and if so how can I access the B.T?

My three times gt. Grandfather John Davies married there at the parish church of St. Nicholas in 1810, I understand that the serivice was conducted by J. Harris.   My ancestor's name was John Davies so you can imagine how difficult it is to trace anyone with the Davies surname let alone the very common name of John, but I am trying to find out just who is father was.  Any help would be appreciated.

Mayo / O'Donnell
« on: Friday 17 August 18 12:18 BST (UK)  »
Can anyone assist in the looking up of a death certificate for a Michael O'Donnell who is believed to have died February 1864 aged 70.   I have been told that the death was registered in Louisburgh and I am reluctant to apply for a death certificate unless I can get this info corroborated.  Michael was married to a Mary and lived in Carrowmacloughlin, Mayo,

Thanks in advance Joan D'Arcy

Mayo / Browne family of Mayo
« on: Tuesday 15 August 17 16:14 BST (UK)  »
Is it possible that someone could look up an entry in the records office for Mayo if there is such a thing for an early entry.  I am trying to find a William Browne who died 25th March 1872 and was said to have been 70 I am hoping that there might be more info on the register also trying not to be greedy but any hope of finding a marriage for him circa 1840 to a lady called Honor ?   I had hoped that I could find her maiden name of the birth of their children but Bridget  circa 1840  John circa 1846 and Thomas circa 1847 but I cannot find anything that could help on line.  If there such info out there I would love to know how to find it.  Many thanks in advance, Joan D'Arcy

Ooops I just realised I never said where he lived it was in Carrowcally, Westport.

England / Lost ship
« on: Monday 20 March 17 13:03 GMT (UK)  »
Hi I have an ancestor by the name of William Eyre he was born in 1834 in Brotherton Yorkshire and I can follow him up to his marriage in 1871.  He had a son in 1877 and I later found that his wife remarried and described herself as a widow.
William was a mariner and I was told that he was the master of a vessel called "Alice" and that this ship went down in the North Sea in 1878 loaded with grain and that there were no survivors.  The Alice was on its way from Berwick to Yarmouth at the time.

However I cannot trace a ship by that name in spite of several searches can anyone suggest places that I can search for missing ships?
