Technical Help / Windows 11
« on: Wednesday 26 July 23 09:27 BST (UK)  »

I am about to collect a new laptop..Windows 11.  My old machine is Windows 7.

My questions are - do I ask the fix it man to transfer everything from one machine to the other ?  I do have a lot of ‘stuff’ that could be junked.

Do I have everything put onto an external hard-drive and attempt do it myself…not terribly tech savvy, but have used this method before for moving documents and photos.

Apart from my family history program it is only used for documents and photos.

I’m a bit concerned. Everything important is backed-up on external hard drive and tribalpages.  I’ve used Paf5 for years but have heard that it doesn’t work with W11…..
Or do I simply start anew….?

Essex / Braintree , possibly Coggeshall Road Old Pubs?
« on: Thursday 03 February 22 10:45 GMT (UK)  »
Help needed with pub name please.

1911 Census - Octavious Green , snip attached, can anyone read the name of the Inn.  It looks to be more of a boarding house with many lodgers.  Previous image is No.6 New Street.  No following image.

1921 - same man, unhelpfully no-one has put the address on the form  ???.  I'm sure it's the same dwelling, a boarding house.

1939 - Wife Ada is at 386 Coggeshall Road, this may not help as there are only seven people in the household, and she may have moved as she is widowed.

I'm not looking for info on the Green family, it's one of their lodgers I'm interested in

Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Thomas Mockford c1670
« on: Sunday 03 October 21 17:35 BST (UK)  »
Could sks please take a look at this...

I have been trawling the PR's for Rottingdean in Sussex courtesy of Familyseach.
This entry in 1710, on the first page of the new register - Film No 004427536 image no 37.

I can see daughter of Thomas and Mary - its what's underneath I can't fathom.

I'm trying to pin down the date of death for his first wife

ADDED Oddly it seems clearer on here that on the original. I think I see = January 15th 1710 When Elizabeth Mockford........cross checking with SFHG database it is the baptism of Elizabeth.  Someone has added parents names over the top.

Your thoughts please....I have John Kett born Wymondham Norfolk 1777.

Later he has a wife Esther.  The only marriage I can find is to Esther Brown in Rochford Essex 1797.  Nothing meaningful in Norfolk registers.

In 1799 John volunteers for the Royal Artillery back in Norfolk, he does just short of 20 years service mostly in Woolwich where seven of their nine children are born and baptised.

I'm certain I have the right John and Esther but how likely is that marriage ?

Essex Lookup Requests / John Kett marriage
« on: Wednesday 03 March 21 19:01 GMT (UK)  »

I wonder if someone could please have a look at the marriage of John Kett and Esther Brown, Rochester 10th July 1797.
Far from sure this is my man, but he fits the dates and known wife Esther.  I'm hoping witnesses might help.

London and Middlesex / Looking for Burial, Isabella Kitt
« on: Wednesday 24 February 21 16:51 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help with this please.

Free BMD has the death of Isabella Kitt age 17 - March Q - 1886 - Whitechapel RD.
I cannot find a burial on FindMyPast Familysearch or Ancestry. The surname can be problematical; often Kell, Kett, Kits, Kitts,

I'm hoping burial record will at least give her abode, I might be able to rule her out before sending for the certificate.
