Canada Lookup Request / Manitoba Archives - Probate
« on: Monday 16 July 12 17:10 BST (UK)  »
If anyone is at, or planning to go to the Manitoba Archives, I would sincerely appreciate a probate file lookup. I do not live in Wpg and am limited in travelling due to my son who has disability challenges. If I could, I would make regular trips there but am limited to what is available online.

I have all the file locator codes , etc.

Thank you!

Canada / 1960s Estate Protocol
« on: Tuesday 19 June 12 16:05 BST (UK)  »
My Great Grandfather died in Manitoba in the 1960s due to a tragic accident. He was a transient and had very little property. Subsequent to his death, an inquest was held. What I am wondering now, is what would the protocol have then been in managing the property left in his boarding room? I am most curious because I heard that he had a Bible.  He had been estranged from his wife and children for over thirty years then.  Would the RCMP have taken custody of it? By the way, he was killed in an vehicle accident, so his items would not be of an evidential nature. Would his landlord have just kept/disposed of it? Would it have been forwarded to his reserve?

Shetland / McPherson - mid1800s *FOUND*
« on: Tuesday 05 June 12 14:35 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to locate info on George McPherson. His HBC biographical sheet lists his birth year as 1840, while census' have it as 1841. So assuming he was born about 1841 in Tingwall Parish. He migrates to Canada in 1861/2 where he remained until his death at Churchill.

McPherson does not seem like a typical Shetlander name. I did find a Catherine (widow of James), her son Robert and her daughter Ursula . . . But am unable to find any connection to George.

I am even beginning to wonder if he was from elsewhere or changed his name at some point.  Considering naming traditions, his sons were Henry, Edward, James, Roderick, and Frederick.

Thanks for helping!

Canada / George McPherson 1862 York Factory HBC passengers
« on: Tuesday 05 June 12 02:33 BST (UK)  »
Is it possible to find out if there is a George McPherson on there?  He was born between 1840-42 and is listed under the Tingwall Parish.  He signed up in 1861 and then traveled to York Factory in 1862, I believe.
