London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / 1841, 1851 Census records
« on: Thursday 22 February 07 06:30 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there,

I wonder if any can help with tracing my gg/grandparents who both were born in Greenwich.  According to the 1881 census John Lake was 51  and Mary Ann (Mulliday) was 40 although I am not sure that these ages are correct.  I was of the opinion from other dates that I have that Mary Ann should also have been 50/51.

However, I am wishing to trace them back to 1841 and 1851 to try and piece together their movements.  I can only find one person with that surname in 1841. A Mary Ann Mulliday appears on the census in the Greenwich workhouse but she seems to have disappeared in 1851.  She married John Lake in 1857 at St Paul Deptford. Maybe a parishn records exists to find out where she came from. . A Daniel Mulliday also appears on the LDS at his marriage in 1858 also St Paul Deptford. Could they be related? These are the only Mullidays I can find. A Daniel Mulladay different spelling) appears in 1881 aged 70 also in the Greenwich workhouse.

Lots of Mullidays or similar surnames appear in all records but none with the same spelling. Mary Ann and Daniel are the only two I can find so any help at all would be very gratefully received.

many thanks

Chris

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Ledger Family Doncaster
« on: Friday 24 March 06 03:47 GMT (UK)  »
I'm trying to trace a Thomas Ledger and Family of Doncaster.

I have been given a family of Thomas, Mary Mellish and their children - Ann 1808, Edward 1810, Frederic 1812 and Louisa b 1814 d 1820.

The first 3 children were born in East Retford and Louisa was apparently born in Doncaster.

Thomas's occupation is given as Joiner.

I am trying to find whether another child Henry Mellish Ledger was born in Doncaster  to this couple abt 1818/1820 maybe a year or two difference.

I feel this could be the family I am looking for because of the mothers surname which may have been given to Henry as his middle name. I just can't find anything on Henry to link them together.

Can anyone help. I'd really appreciate it.

thanks

Huntingdonshire Lookup Requests / Marriage look-up please abt 1815
« on: Wednesday 22 March 06 07:13 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for a marriage of a Robert Clark and I'm guessing that it was around 1815-1816 give or take a couple of years.

He appears on 1841 Huntingdon census in Pidley cum Fenton with his children but no wife. All the children and Robert were born in county so I'm hoping Roberts marriage also took place at Pidley.

Youngest child listed is Charles 8 yrs so another guess is that the wife may have died before the census.

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Nottinghamshire Lookup Requests / Henry Ledger - Doncaster Birth
« on: Tuesday 21 March 06 04:55 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone help please.

I'm looking for birth records and or family connections of my g/g/grandfather, Henry Mellish Ledger born abt 1818-1820 to father Thomas a cabinet maker. 1861 and 1881 census states he was born in Doncaster.

I have been given a good link by Bryan from Rootschat to the Mellish family of Hodsock Hall and it looks promising but the missing link is trying to establish the birth record of Henry and who Thomas married. I'm thinking the Mellish could be a connection to his mothers side. The Mellish family seem to come from the Nottingham area.

I'd really appreciate any help I can get with this.

thanks

I'm looking for a birth record and family connections of a Henry Mellish Ledger apparently born Doncaster abt 1818. Fathers name could be Thomas a cabinet maker (on marriage cert).

Henry married a Jane Radbourne in 1848 and appears on the 1861 and 1881 census living in Bletchingdon Oxford and has Doncaster listed as birthplace.

I've been told there is a school in the area called the Henry Mellish School and I'd be interested in knowing if there is a connection. Does anyone know how the school got it's name?

I'd really appreciate any help with this.

thanks

Oxfordshire / Help Please - where do I go from here
« on: Wednesday 08 March 06 23:40 GMT (UK)  »
I have posted lookup requests in both Oxford and Berks regarding a Radbourne family of either county.  My g/g grandmother was apparently born in Appleton Berks (According to the 1861 and 1881 census) abt 1828.

I have had no replies to my posts so I am assuming the family doesn't appear on the 1841 census for these areas.

Jane married a Henry Ledger in 1848 and her fathers name is listed as Thomas Radbourn (gardener). Both spellings are used on the marriage cert.

There is a Radbourne family with Thomas as head in the 1851 Oxford (Whitney,Ensham) census, but how can I find out if this is my Thomas and if they are connected to Jane?

I'm trying to trace the family prior to Janes marriage in 1848. Can anyone tell me how to go about this.

Thanks in anticipation

Chris

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / 1841 Oxford/Berks Census Lookup please - Radbourne
« on: Monday 27 February 06 02:16 GMT (UK)  »
Please, can anyone help with a lookup for a Jane Radbourn(e) born abt 1828 so would have been 13/14 years old. Fathers name could have been Thomas and he was a gardener.

Jane was apparently born Appleton Berks so the family could have been in Oxford or Berks in 1841.

She married Henry Ledger (born Doncaster) in 1848 in Bletchington but I haven't been able to come up with anything on her prior to her marriage. The surname Radbourn(e) was spelt both ways on the certificate. Henry and Jane appear in the 1861 and 1881 census. All of their children were born in Bletchington.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
