Can anyone help me find his birth and parents?
He was a handloom weaver by trade. He married Elizabeth GRUBB in Dundee in 1829, where the register gives his name as Alexander CULBERT.  On the census he and his family are noted as CUTHBERT.  He was living in Bellfield Lane in 1841 and Bernard Street in 1851. He died in 1879.  I have seen the family headstone (Balgry Cemetery), but it gives no indication of where he was born or his parents names. I have some info on his children,  so anyone with connections is welcome to send me a PM.

Travelling People / BURDEN/KALAKER Family Surrey/London
« on: Monday 12 October 15 11:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I've just discovered a branch of my Tovey family who moved from Winchcombe to London, married into what I believe may be a travelling/romany family:
Alice Maud Tovey b 1884 Winchcombe  married Harry T Burden in Islington 1911.  I believe they had at least one daughter Irene L M Burden in 1913.

Harry T Burden was born 1887  Walworth Surrey and is the son of  Daniel BURDEN b 1863 and Ellen KALAHER/CALAHER b 1863.  Daniel and Ellen married St Olave Southwark 1882.  Daniel is variously described as a 'Hawker/Gen Dealer'.

Ellen is the daughter of  Wm and Julia CALAHER.... I understand this surname has various spellings and that with a 'K' denotes English spelling whereas with a 'C' may indicate the family is Irish.  I have found both in regard to Ellen...
Daniel the son of Henry and Caroline.....father in 1871 'Hawker'.  In 1871,  the whole family is stated as having been born in 'Newington'  - presumably Newington, Southwark, Surrey.  That happens to be where they are living in 1871, so might not be 100% accurate.
I'd be interested in hearing from anyone with links to Harry T Burden.

Hi,

Back on the Tovey Trail (again)

My ancestor is Henry Tovey bap Didbrook 1752  - I know this is true because I know his age at death.
IGI (I know) shows a Henry Tovey bap 1752 Didbrook as the son of Richard & Elizabeth,  IGI also shows at least 4 other children bap Didbrook.

Anyhow, until recently I'd only ever found  Richard Tovey and Elizabeth Telling from Fairford.  As has been pointed out, Fairford is quite a way from the area my Toveys seemed to roam  Worcs/GLS/Warks borders.

However, I have found a baptism for a Richard Tovey  1721  Alstone  Warks  he seems a likely candidate to be Henry's father.  BUT,  I have also come across this burial:
Richard Tovey 1 Sept 1723  Parish  Bredon, Worcs.
Of course, if this is the Alstone Richard Tovey, it's back to the drawing board for me......Can anyone find an age for this Richard Tovey when he was buried?

I am hoping it's the Richard Tovey married to another Elizabeth who baptised their son William Tovey  in Beckford in 11 Oct 1717......

I believe Richard Tovey bap Alstone 1721  to be the son of Joseph TOVEY of Overbury and Mary LUNN  who married in Bredon St Giles in 1716......anyone else have links to them or their families?  Joseph and Mary's children seemed to be baptised in Alstone or Alderton  parishes

Thanks.
