New Zealand Completed Requests / Finding unknown father . Hastings nz

Unknown if anyone can help me or if in right place.
Im trying to help my partner find his birth father ..
We dont have much info except He was an ex navy personnel trained as a chef in the navy between tge years of 1974 and 1978 ish and then become a head chef at a restaurant in hastings nz . We have the nanes simon and peter that were dignifcant nanes some how to the birth mother. Him and partners birth mother met did not marry. had him and both decided on adoption. Birth mother has since past away.
If any one knows where to look for help to figure this out that would be great
