Other Countries / Narizano search in Uruguay
« on: Thursday 28 May 20 12:30 BST (UK)  »
I have 2 photographs of 2 women with a photographers name, address and date on the back.
"Fleurquiny Gia, Montivideo, Uruguay, 1878-1880+" Also on the back of the younger girls photo is written Mrs Narizano.
It is suspected they are mother and daughter who looks to be in her 20s. From the little research I have been able to do the daughters name may be Regina, her maiden name may be Cooke and her husbands name may be Carlos. I can not confirm any of this though.
It's a long shot but help greatly appreciated.

Ireland / Roaadside memorial stones
« on: Sunday 12 April 20 23:02 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to learn a bit about roadside memorial marker stones. In the process of finding out about my Gx3 grandfather I learned through a newspaper article that he was thrown from his horse and cart and died while on his way home from his birth town. This was in 1858. It was while trying to find the location of the house he lived in someone on here PMed me a message of a story he had been told of a very similar incident and that there was a memorial stone on the side of the road. There is so much anecdotal evidence that the stone is for my ancestor but I accept it will not be possible to prove 100%. I only just got to visit the location recently and there is only a cross on the stone. What is the history of roadside memorial stones.

Carlow / House search in Bagnelastown in the 1850s
« on: Thursday 25 January 18 18:24 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for some help in locating a house called Laurel Lodge in or around Bagenalstown in the 1850s. I have located obituaries for both my GGG Grandparents John D1858 & Mary Jones D1860 as living in this house. They lived all or most of their married life in Baltinglass, Co Wicklow up to the Griffins Valuation. So they only moved here a short time before they died. One of their Daughters was married to Ashmores of Corries House. Could it be near this address. It's a common name for a house so may not be easy to locate but any help is greatly appreciated.

Dublin / A John Christopher Sherlock Jones search
« on: Sunday 18 October 15 11:33 BST (UK)  »
I'm trying to find out more about a John Christopher Sherlock Jones. Parents John Disney and Elizabeth Jones. John D, B1812, D1849 at Kings street. Elizabeth D1884 at 23 Strand Rd, Sandymount. John C S was born about 1843, sister Mary possible twin died 1883. Married to Lydia B1855 D1891, maiden name unknown. I know of 2 children who didn't survive, Elizabeth B & D1889 and John B & D1890. John C S Jones lived for some time in Alexander House, 1 Elena Terrace, Ballsbridge. Does anyone know where exactly this is. I have looked on old maps and it doesn't seem to be listed. There is an office block on the old Sweepstake site called Alexandra house. Am I jumping to conclusions or named after it.
John C S Jones died in 3/4/1909 in the Adelaide Hospital. Strangly I couldn't find him in the 1901 census. His Attestant is listed as Geo Jones, cousin, 17 Grafton Street. The only info I can find for Geo or George is living over the shops at that address in 1915. Again I couldn't find him in the 1901 or 1911 census. I know stating cousin can mean quite a distant relationship but I would like to find out more as to how. All this information listed above was found from the grave at Mount Jerome. Religion is most likely Methodist but could be CofI.
I would like to know what John D and John C S jones worked at.
Are there any surviving children. Suspect not.
Who is George Jones and how exactly is he related.
Help greatly apprecieted.

Kilkenny / Mountaquilla, Kilkenny location?
« on: Friday 29 May 15 17:52 BST (UK)  »
Hi all
I'm looking for the location of an address in kilkenny called Mountaquilla. It was given as an address in a deed dated 1848 for an ancestor. He is then in Wicklow for the Griffins valuation. I have searched on both Google maps and OI historical maps to no avail. I have also tried to search for a meaning of the name in the hope of being able to find it but no luck. So I'm hoping for some local knowledge that someone may know where this location is.

Thanks in advance.

FH Documents and Artefacts / Cane sword inquiry
« on: Wednesday 14 January 15 18:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hi there
I'm looking for information on a cane sword which has been in the family for some time but I would like to find out approximately how old it is, so I may be able to work out who origionally bought it.
There is no writting on it but there is a faint logo on the top of the blade which is very hard to see. The logo appears to be a different metal. I don't know what type of wood is used in the cane but it is well marked from use. The metal (appears to be tin) tip is also well scuffed and turned up ar the very end from use.

Help appreciated, thanks.

Dublin / Patrick & Mary Ellen Whyte inquiry
« on: Thursday 18 December 14 17:22 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking to find out what happened to a Patrick and Mary Ellen Whyte (or White) spelt both ways.
They lived at 66 Sandwith Street, Dublin in both the 1901 and 1911 census. Mary was born Jones on the 4th of January 1865 and Patrick was born about 1870.
They were both born in Wicklow and were married in St Andrews, Dublin on the 19 February 1892.
They appear to have had only 1 child who didn't survive.
I have no record of what happened after the 1911 census and don't know where to begin. Help greatly appreciated.

Dublin / Belgrove House, Palmerstown inquiry
« on: Wednesday 26 November 14 12:03 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for any information on Belgrove house in Palmerstown as an ancestor may have lived there. I believe it was built in the mid 1800s and has now been replaced with a housing development named after it. I understand the house may still have been in existance in the 1960s or 70s, so would anyone have a picture of the house. Great if someone did.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Photograph date and location
« on: Monday 18 August 14 09:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi all
I have the following photograph which I would be gratefull for the help in dating and location.
It measures 7" X 9 3/4" and it has a stamp on the lower right corner with 3 words. The last would appear to be "Chambers". Is this a photographers stamp?
I suspect it is from the early 1900, maybe about 1920s and if so I may be able to narrow the suspects.

The following is an enlargment of the stamp.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
