The Common Room / the Legitimacy act of 1926
« on: Monday 21 February 22 16:16 GMT (UK)  »
Wondering if anyone is familiar with this act. I understand it was designed so that a couple who had a child out of wedlock could legitimize that child when they married. I am wondering if it could also be used when a couple marries and the woman had a child out of wedlock but not with that same man she is marrying and the man she is marrying wants to put his name as father. I have an instance where someone who was born in 1927 has a new birth certificate issued in 1931 and it says issued under that act. This couple married in 1929 but we believe that the mans name on the 1931 certificate was not her biological father. Does anyone know if this act could be used in this way. Thanks, Roberta

Northumberland / burials in holy trinity churchyard berwick upon tweed
« on: Sunday 03 May 20 22:47 BST (UK)  »
can anyone tell me who to contact to find the location of a certain headstone in this cemetery. I am looking for Christopher Redpath and his wife Isabella. She died in 1792 and he in 1808. I believe there are others buried in the same grave but are not on the headstone. I have been told that the last letter (H) of redpath is not well visible but the rest of the name is. The person who told me this could not find the info as to location of the headstone. Thanks, Roberta

I have been trying to get in touch with "Frek" who was a previous poster. Looks like he last posted in 2008. I really want to contact him as he had a post on a John Wylie born c 1779 Berwickshire and I have never come across anyone else researching this ancestor of mine. Wondering if anyone remembers or knows him. Thanks, Retire
